Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Individuum, Gruppe, Gesellschaft, Note: 2,3, Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Fokus dieser Arbeit liegt auf der Untersuchung von Aushandlungsprozessen in einer postmigrantischen Gesellschaft. Dabei wird auf die Arbeiten von Autoren (die sich mit diesem Thema befasst haben) eingegangen, mit speziellem Fokus auf die Arbeiten der Migrationsforscherin Naika Foroutan. Die Basis der Überlegung ist hierbei, Theorien über die Bedingungen der Aushandlungsprozesse von Naika Foroutan darzustellen und diese den Analysen anderer Migrationsforscher gegenüber zu stellen. Wenn wir einen Blick in die Geschichte werfen, können wir beobachten, dass Migration schon immer ein integraler Bestandteil jeder Gesellschaft war. Die Ursachen dafür waren bisher größtenteils Krieg, Hungersnot oder auch Vertreibung aus dem jeweiligen Ursprungsland. In dem neuen Land muss der Akteur sich dann der neuen Umwelt anpassen und bestimmte Bedingungen und Erwartungen erfüllen, um mit den Menschen in seiner Umgebung interagieren zu können. Die neue Kultur und die Lebensweise der Einheimischen wirken für den Akteur in einer Migration oftmals neu und befremdlich, weshalb man in dem Kontext auch oft von einer Anpassungsphase spricht. Ist die Anpassungsphase vorüber, entsteht der Anspruch, sich an gesellschaftlichen Prozessen zu beteiligen. Dies findet dann in einem Aushandlungsprozess statt, bei der unter anderem verschiedene Fraktionen entstehen können. Der Akteur ist in diesem Prozess bemüht an Ressourcen wie Bildung, Prestige oder auch sozialer Vernetzung, in der Verhandlung mit anderen Menschen zu gelangen. Die Frage ist jedoch, wie der Prozess verläuft und mit welchen Bedingungen und Faktoren er verknüpft ist. Der Begriff "postmigrantisch" tritt in der Migrationsforschung besonders häufig auf und ist unabdingbar, um sich auf diesem Feld der Forschung zu bewegen. Der Begriff impliziert eine Phase oder einen Zeitraum, die eine Gesellschaft mit Migrationsgeschichte erklären will und fordert gleichzeitig eine neue Perspektive auf die Menschen, deren Vorfahren emigriert sind, um die Aushandlungsprozesse in der Gesellschaft besser nachvollziehen zu können.

The concept of ‘super-diversity’ has received considerable attention since it was introduced in Ethnic and Racial Studies in 2007, reflecting a broadening interest in finding new ways to talk about contemporary social complexity. This book brings together a collection of essays which empirically and theoretically examine super-diversity and the multi-dimensional shifts in migration patterns to which the notion refers. These shifts entail a worldwide diversification of migration channels, differentiations of legal statuses, diverging patterns of gender and age, and variance in migrants’ human capital. Across the contributions, super-diversity is subject to two modes of comparison: (a) side-by-side studies contrasting different places and emergent conditions of super-diversity; and (b) juxtaposed arguments that have differentially found use in utilizing or criticizing ‘super-diversity’ descriptively, methodologically or with reference to policy and public practice. The contributions discuss super-diversity and its implications in nine cities located in eight countries and four continents. This book was originally published as a special issue of Ethnic and Racial Studies.

Hybridity and its Discontents explores the history and experience of 'hybridity' - the mixing of peoples and cultures - in North and South America, Latin America, Britain and Ireland, South Africa, Asia and the Pacific. The contributors trace manifestations of hybridity in debates about miscengenation and racial purity, in scientific notions of genetics and 'race', in processes of cultural translation, and in ideas of nation, community and belonging. The contributors begin by examining the persistence of anxieties about racial 'contamination', from nineteenth-century fears of miscegenation to more recent debates about mixed race relationships and parenting. Examining the lived experiences of children of 'mixed parentage', contributors ask why such fears still thrive in a supposedly tolerant culture? Superdiversity explores processes of diversification and the complex, emergent social configurations that now supersede prior forms of diversity in societies around the world. Migration plays a key role in these processes, bringing changes not just in social, cultural, religious, and linguistic phenomena, but also in the ways that these phenomena combine with others like gender, age, and legal status. The concept of superdiversity has been adopted by scholars across the social sciences in order to address a variety of forms, modes, and outcomes of diversification. Central to this field is the relationship between social categorization and social organization, including stratification and inequality. Increasingly complex categories of social “difference” have significant impacts across scales, from entire societies to individual identities. While diversification is often met with simplifying stereotypes, threat narratives, and expressions of antagonism, superdiversity encourages a perspective on difference as comprising multiple social processes, flexible collective meanings, and overlapping personal and group identities. A superdiversity approach encourages the re-evaluation and recognition of social categories as multidimensional, unfixed, and porous as opposed to views based on hardened, one-dimensional thinking about groups. Diversification and increasing social complexity are bound to continue, if not intensify, in light of climate change. This will have profound impacts on the nature of global migration, social relations, and inequalities. Superdiversity presents a convincing case for recognizing new social formations created by changing migration patterns and calls for a re-thinking of public policy and social scientific approaches to social difference. This introduction to the multidisciplinary concept of superdiversity will be of considerable interest to students and researchers in a range of fields in the humanities and social sciences. This book examines the phenomenon of urban fear – the increasing anxiety over crime and violence in Western cities despite their high safety – with a view to developing a comprehensive, critical, exploratory theory of fear, space, and urban planning that unravels the paradoxes of their mutual relations.
