This work includes Forewords by Benyamin Maoz and John Salinsky, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry, Faculty for Health Sciences, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel; General Practitioner, Course Organiser and Author, London. 'Two very close friends - a clinical psychologist and a family physician, decide to correspond quite spontaneously with one another via email, each from his vantage point in the therapeutic realm. The work of clinicians in most areas of the health field is stressful and overwhelming and often very lonely. These factors encouraged us to negotiate some very intimate professional moments with one another, each of us reflecting, from his unique perspective, on the dilemmas, doubts, struggles, and rewards of treating our patients...' This book offers insights into the emotional, professional and personal lives of two clinicians. The enlightening stories bring consultations to life, and explore ideas of knowledge, communication, healing and the true meaning of care. Each case offers a glimpse of everyday patients, pressures and lessons. "Behind the Consultation" is ideal for all health and social care professionals. Academics and educators with an interest in medical humanities will also find it invaluable. 'This is not a systematic teaching book of therapeutic skills or methods, but it is a treasury of stories that lead the reader to look into the world of emotions, dilemmas and open questions. Those who would like to learn more of what happens once the door is closed and therapist and patient meet, will benefit from these fascinating stories and later use them in their own personal or professional life. Reading this book of human interactions is, in itself, a process of learning through experience, an enrichment of ones own personality.' - Benyamin Maoz, in the Foreword.

Recent events in the high-tech sector have shown that being bigger in the professional consulting arena does not always mean you are better. Big budget PR programs can disguise questionable competency levels and without guidance, clients can suffer unnecessarily. Before engaging one, it is wise to know something about how consultants operate and then follow a prescribed selection process. Consultants, even the most prestigious large firms, are not omnipotent and all knowing. They share the market with larger and smaller competitors-some of which are more or less capable, efficient, scrupulous and profitable. Consultants are not omniscient. The wisest among them know knowledge and innovation has many sources, converges from all directions and does not flow solely from any single individual or from within the walls of any single organization. It follows then, that the consultant should not be relied upon as the sole source of enlightenment. To be of true value, he must constantly seek knowledge, absorb it like a sponge and employ it as beneficially as possible, with his best effort, for the interests of his client.

The Consulting Room And Beyond written by Therese Ragen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-04-15 with Psychology categories.

The Consulting Room and Beyond is not a typical example of clinical writing in the field of psychoanalysis. Therese Ragen, pushing the boundaries of the genre, thoughtfully explores in a very immediate way the intersubjective nature of psychoanalysis, particularly looking at the role of the psychoanalyst’s subjectivity, both how it influences and is influenced by the psychoanalytic relationship. The profound ways in which analyst and patient affect each other are captured as the author moves from a moment with a patient, to one of her own memories, to a dream, to a professional consultation and back to the session with the patient. Ragen’s detailed descriptions of her subjective experiences and clinical skill help to weave the anecdotes into a compelling narrative, worthy of the attention of theorists, academics and clinicians alike.

The Prior Consultation Of Indigenous Peoples In Latin America written by Claire Wright and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Human rights categories.

This book delves into the reasons behind and the consequences of the implementation gap regarding the right to prior consultation and the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) of Indigenous Peoples in Latin America. In recent years, the economic and political projects of Latin American States have become increasingly dependent on the extractive industries. This has resulted in conflicts when governments and international firms have made considerable investments in those lands that have been traditionally inhabited and used by Indigenous Peoples, who seek to defend their rights against exploitative practices. After decades of intense mobilisation, important gains have been made at international level regarding the opportunity for Indigenous Peoples to have a say on these matters. Notwithstanding this, the right to prior consultation and the FPIC of Indigenous Peoples on the ground are far from being fully applied and guaranteed. And, even when prior consultation processes are carried out, the outcomes remain uncertain. This volume rigorously investigates the causes of this implementation gap and its consequences for the protection of Indigenous Peoples' rights, lands, identities and ways of life in the Latin American region. Bending The Rules written by Rachel Augustine Potter and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-06-15 with Political Science categories.

Who determines the fuel standards for our cars? What about whether Plan B, the morning-after pill, is sold at the local pharmacy? Many people assume such important and controversial policy decisions originate in the halls of Congress. But the choreographed actions of Congress and the president account for only a small portion of the laws created in the United States. By some estimates, more than ninety percent of law is created by administrative rules issued by federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Health and Human Services, where unelected bureaucrats with particular policy goals and preferences respond to the incentives created by a complex, procedure-bound rulemaking process. With Bending the Rules, Rachel Augustine Potter shows that rulemaking is not the rote administrative activity it is commonly imagined to be but rather an intensely political activity in its own right. Because rulemaking occurs in a separation of powers system, bureaucrats are not free to implement their preferred policies unimpeded: the president, Congress, and the courts can all get involved in the process, often at the bidding of affected interest groups. However, rather than capitulating to demands, bureaucrats routinely employ “procedural politicking,” using their deep knowledge of the process to strategically insulate their proposals from political scrutiny and interference. Tracing the rulemaking process from when an agency first begins working on a rule to when it completes that regulatory action, Potter shows how bureaucrats use procedures to resist interference from Congress, the President, and the courts at each stage of the process. This exercise reveals that unelected bureaucrats wield considerable influence over the direction of public policy in the United States.
