When faced with life’s challenges, we need to learn how to stand and remain committed during hard and complicated times, instead of taking flight when things become difficult or problematic. I guess one could say that is practicing the art of being optimistic. But God has put something more on the inside of each of us than just being optimistic; something that helps us stand when life becomes challenging. From time to time, all of us have been faced with complex issues in life. Unfortunately, it is in those times—the testing times—that some people will give up on life. But for those who know who God is, who they are, and what their purposes are in life; have learned to stand and be committed in difficult times. In the book of Joshua 1:9 (AMP), God first asks Joshua a question and then tells him, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” We have that same powerful presence of God available to us today. Once we have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior; we come to know and realize that God is with us. It’s also important to understand that we have available to us his grace, love, faithfulness, and mercy. With all of that available to us, we should feel empowered to being committed during hard and difficult times. This is why it is important for us not to become settled in our hardships or difficulties, or to take on a defeated attitude towards life. But we should continue trusting and believing God as we go through our difficulties; knowing that God always has a way out. First Corinthians 10:13–14 states, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” The Word continues to encourage us in Ecclesiastes 9:4: “anyone who is among the living has hope—even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!” It is my belief that God has put in each of us an inner strength and peace that we must learn how to tap into, obtain, and walk in. This inner strength is available to each of us if we believe, respect, and receive it so that we can be committed in difficult and uncertain times.

In today's world, commitment is a virtue that is hard to come across. Most of us want to do what is convenient and finding people who are committed becomes increasingly difficult. Commitment is a discipline. It is a deliberate choice we make. The Bible teaches us about being committed. The Lord Jesus stated, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24). Jesus thus describes that this is our inherent nature. Man cannot fulfill two commitments that are contrary to each other. For example, we cannot serve God and the world. This book emphasizes the power of commitment and will inspire you to be committed in all that you do. The hour to be committed is now. Commitment. We all say it is what we want. Yet long-term love continues to elude us and confuse us. We say we are starving for a real and sincere connection to another person. Even so, too often we are our own worst enemies -- sabotaging and undermining our chances. In the most simple language, we don't know how to make and keep the connections that matter most: We focus on the wrong partners; we run away from real possibility. As we form relationships we discover it's difficult to make good choices. It's difficult to be trusting, vulnerable, faithful, and honest.Carter and Sokol coined the term "commitmentphobia." They also wrote the definitive book on the fear of commitment -- Men Who Can't Love. Getting to Commitment takes the next step, offering concrete solutions for finding and keeping long-term love.In Getting to Commitment, readers will learn how to overcome the eight greatest obstacles to lasting connection: Stop Blaming Others; Say Goodbye to Your Ghosts; Find and Fight for theSelf; Stay Grounded in Reality; Allow Yourself to Be Known; Learn the Lessons of Acceptance; Blaze a New Trail; Handle Your Anxieties.Falling in love and staying in love requires its own kind of heroism. Our hearts have to be brave as well as loving. That's because it takes real courage to love; it take real courage to make a commitment. This book is about finding that courage.

As to the staff, both nurses and doctors were treating patients with a mixture of prejudice, ill-understood physical interventions such as shock therapy (in all its forms), and sedation. We all conducted our care within the provisions of the Mental Health Acts of 1959 and 1983, but the older nurses and doctors had been trained postwar. Doctors generally expected, and got, deference from patients. They got it from nurses too, though nurses could be a two-faced lot. Maybe it was the older nurses enduring influence that made psychiatric nurses enforce compliance from their patients. But from the 1960s, protest against the big forbidding madhouses became more frequent and vociferous. By the 1980s, there was a storm of coruscating reports and bitterly convincing accounts of mistreatment. So a new NHS mental health care policy was developed: Care in the Community. The old institutions would close down, and their inhabitants would be parented, so to speak, by the social security system and visits from community-based psychiatric nurses. This was not only cheaper (it got rid of those old asylums), but it also reflected liberal views of mental disorder as something that, with love and responsibility, could be lessened, while the mentally disadvantaged would have a better quality of life. Care in the Community got rid of some of the staff too, but many carried their old behavior into new jobs. This book relates my experiences between 1969 and 1989. I would like to think that psychiatric care is better now, but I dont. I think its just different.

Criminal Law: A Comparative Approach presents a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the substantive criminal law of two major jurisdictions: the United States and Germany. Presupposing no familiarity with either U.S. or German criminal law, the book will provide criminal law scholars and students with a rich comparative understanding of criminal law's foundations and central doctrines. All foreign-language sources have been translated into English; cases and materials are accompanied by heavily cross-referenced introductions and notes that place them within the framework of each country's criminal law system and highlight issues ripe for comparative analysis. Divided into three parts, the book covers foundational issues - such as constitutional limits on the criminal law - before tackling the major features of the general part of the criminal law and a selection of offences in the special part. Throughout, readers are exposed to alternative approaches to familiar problems in criminal law, and as a result will have a chance to see a given country's criminal law doctrine, on specific issues and in general, from the critical distance of comparative analysis.

Since the 2007 2008 global financial crisis, there has been much debate about the role of financial regulation and the causes of financial instability in the industry. Where studies commonly question the value of a regulated rather than free market , this book focuses on the differentiation of 'good regulation' and 'bad regulation'. This book highlights the need for financial regulation to combat corruption, and the integral link that exists between corruption and financial instability. The author evaluates the benefits and shortcomings of specific types of regulation, drawing on recent examples to illustrate each argument. The book presents compelling arguments for the regulation of leverage, liquidity, payday loans and securitisation; and debates the negative aspects of the regulation of short selling, and high-frequency trading, and of Basel-style banking regulation. The author argues that there is no free-market solution to financial instability, and rejects the idea of 'too big to fail'.
