Wesent lich in der alten Form geblieben sind nur die Aufsatze zur alteren deutschen Phi1050phie und der uber Bilder und Gleichnisse bei Kant; dort ist naturlich beachtet und verwandt, was die Arbeit der beiden Jahrzehnte an Neuem gebracht hat; auch ist die Dar stellung durchsichtiger und flussiger zu gestalten gesucht. Eine erheblich abweichende Behandlung ihres Gegenstandes bieten die \ufsatze "zur Erinnerung an Adolf T rendelenburg und "parteien md Parteinamen in der Philosophie. Das fruhere Buch brachte >inen mehr ins Einzelne gehenden Aufsatz "zur Charakteristik ler Philosophie Trendelenburgs; ich glaube, dafs die Gesamtart les gediegenen Forschers und edlen Menschen besser in der Ge lachtnisrede zur Anschauung gebracht wird, die ich bei seiner Sakularfeier gehalten habe das Problem der Parteien habe ich nergischer auf seine tieferen Grunde zuruckzufuhren gesucht und ugleich alles nebensachliche Rasonnement ausgeschieden; bei den 'arteinamen ist nur einiges berichtigt und hinzugefugt worden. Fallig neu sind die Aufsatze "bayle und Kant und "gedanken und Anregungen zur Geschichte der Philosophie Bei Bayle gibt 3 noch immer manches zu tun und, wie ich denke, auch zu ge winnen vielleicht wird, gemals der Gewohnheit unserer Zeit, der evorstehende Gedachtnistag seines Todes (bayle 1 1706) zuregerer Beschaftigung mit ihm wirken. Der letzte Abschnitt bringt sowohl prinzipielle Erorterungen als Anregungen zur Forschung; mit beidem hofft er zu zeigen, dafs es trotz aller be deutenden Leistungen auf diesem Gebiete noch immer recht viel zu klaren und zu arbeiten gibt. Bei diesem Abschnitt tritt an: meisten hervor, was in Wahrheit dem ganzen Buche als Ziel vor schwebt und in aller bunten Fulle einen gemeinsamen Charakter gibt: es mochte zur Einfuhrung in die Arbeit an der Geschichte der Philosophie ihrer mannigfachen Verzweigung nach wirken; der Stoff ist namentlich von dem Gesichtspunkt aus gewahlt, dafs sich von den einzelnen Stellen her Ausblicke auf weitere Aufgaber eroffnen. Phenomenology as practised by Adolf Reinach ( 1883-191 7) in his all too brief philosophical career exemplifies all the virtues of Husserl's Logical Investigations. It is sober, concerned to be clear and deals with specific problems. It is therefore understandable that, in a philosophical climate in which Husserl's masterpiece has come to be regarded as a mere stepping stone on the way to his later Phenomeno logy, or even to the writings of a Heidegger, Reinach's contributions to exact philo sophy have been all but totally forgotten. The topics on which Reinach wrote most illuminatingly, speech acts (which he called 'social acts') and states of affairs (Sachverhalte ), as well as his realism about the external world, have come to be regarded as the preserve of other traditions of exact philosophy. Like my fellow contributors, I hope that the present volume will go some way towards correcting this unfortunate historical accident. Reinach's account of judgements and states of affairs, an account that precedes those of Russell and Wittgenstein, his 1913 treatment of speech acts, his reinter pretation of Hume and aspects of his legal philosophy are the main philosophical topics dealt with in what follows. But his analysis of deliberation as well as his work on movement and Zeno's paradoxes get only a passing mention.

Nothing affects the modern economy (and society) more than decisions made in the market place, especially, but not only, decisions made by consumers. Although it is not startling to suggest that decisions made in production are affected by choices consumers make, consumers have long been viewed, not only by academic economists, as individual, isolated rational actors that make or refrain from purchases purely on the basis of narrow financial considerations. Markets are not and never were morally neutral. Market relations have always had an often taken-for-granted moral underpinning. The moralization of the markets refers to the dissolution and replacement of the conventional moral underpinnings of market conduct, for example, in the music market, financial markets, and corporate governance. It further implies not only the heightened importance of new ethical precepts, but the significant change in the role of moral ideals in market behavior. These profound transformations of economic conduct are accompanied and co-determined by societal conflicts. The moralization of markets represents thus a new stage in the social evolution of markets. The book is divided into four parts, in which the twelve chapters, written by contributors from different social science disciplines, deal with the context of the moralization of the markets; the major social institutions; and present case studies that examine European and American attitudes and behavior towards tobacco and GMO; expansion of the private and ethics in business; and how workers respond to the new corporate norms.
