A novel of suspense set in Beirut, in which a Lebanese-American commando devised a reckless plan to rescue a CIA agent held hostage by a Hezbollah terrorist chieftain. Its finale takes place in the Roman ruins of Baalbeck. The author has an intimate grasp of the region where he has lived most of his life. Dark back streets are the setting for this novel of action where retaliation is sacred; heaven is the future abode of those who commit suicide. The Hezbollah chieftain is an addict and trader of hashish. Abdo Ihsan, the protagonist hints his interest of buying the drug. The chieftain promises to get him some. Abdo also learns that the Hezbollah chieftain uses the release of a falcon to blind his foes. Abdo bribes a prostitute to make the Hezbollah chieftain smoke hashish adulterated with sleeping potion. On the night of rescue, the Hezbollah chieftain becomes sick and cannot chase Abdo kidnapping the CIA agent. His only hope is to set loose the falcon to use its poisoned talons to stop Abdo. But the commando tricks the falcon into its death and they are saved from harm as they get outside the country.

She Stood Before Him Barely Dressed In veils and silks, she was almost more than desperate cowboy Parker Dunlap could bear. He needed a nanny for the two children he had just become father to—not a woman who put him in mind of a harem and Arabian nights! But there was a magic in her uncertain smile, a plea no man could refuse…. Centuries of disuse had left Nesrin's powers lacking…but her eyesight was still sharp. The man she saw before her—in skin-molding jeans and a sexy Stetson—made her hunger for the touch she'd been deprived of for centuries. But to do so might mean condemning herself to eternal darkness in her lamp.

The New Belly Dancer Of The Galaxy written by Frances Khirallah Noble and has been published by Syracuse University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-03-15 with Fiction categories.

In this deftly turned story, author Frances Khirallah Noble presents a story that is at once sublimely comic yet surprisingly erudite in the subjects it tackles. Its hero, Kahlil Gibran Hourani, is an ordinary, in fact rather bumbling, middle-aged Syrian American optician. On the eve of his fifty-third birthday Kali finds himself confronting seminal questions. "I face the last third of my life," he reflects, "and I don’t know what to do with myself. Every day I ask how should I be living now? What should I do with the end in sight? Can I come to terms with it?" Enter his dead grandmother, the wisely sardonic Situe. Although she appears in a dream at first and reappears at whim, Situe’s presence will turn Kali’s life upside down. Through a series of misadventures Kali is abducted and wrongly suspected of being a terrorist by apparent rogue government agents. His darkly absurd experiences force Kali to question his own perceptions, inviting the reader to do the same. Part myth, part magical realism, always knowing, the book offers a biting critique on issues of race, constitutional rights, and the realities of Arab American life in a post 9/11 world.

The Politics Of Size written by Ragen Chastain and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-25 with Social Science categories.

This book presents an unprecedented opportunity for people to hear from a simultaneously ostracized, ridiculed, and ignored group: fat Americans. Find out how the members of this very diverse group of people describe their actual lived experiences, quality of life, hopes and dreams, and demands. Our society is body-size obsessed. The result? An environment where "fat people" are consistently shunned and discussed disparagingly behind their backs. Although fat people typically bear the brunt of the institutionalized oppression around being oversized, pervasive closeminded attitudes about body size in America affect everyone of all sizes—from people who are shamed for being too thin to those whose lives revolve around the fear of becoming fat. This book talks about a topic that is important to all readers, regardless of their physical size, providing an anthology of first-person accounts of what it's like to be part of the fat-acceptance movement and on the front lines of activism in the "war on obesity." The Politics of Size: Perspectives from the Fat Acceptance Movement supplies a frank discussion of the issues surrounding being fat and the associated health concerns—both physical and mental—and reframes the discussion about obesity from a medical issue to a social one. The essays serve to correct misinformation about obesity and fat people that is commonly accepted by the general public, such as the idea that "fat" and "healthy" are mutually exclusive. Subject matter covered includes fat-friendly workplace policies; fat dating experiences; and the intersections of being fat and also a person of color, a person with disabilities, a transgender person, or a member of another sub-group of society.
