Herra Kuf päätti kirjoittaa itsensä uneen. Daniel Katz syntyi 25. marraskuuta 1938 Helsingissä. Hän on valmistunut Helsingin yliopistosta humanististen tieteiden kandidaatiksi. Katz on työskennellyt muun muassa uskonnonopettajana, tunnelinporaajana ja tulkkina. Hänen tuotantoonsa kuuluu romaaneja, yksi epäromaani, novelleja, näytelmiä, radiokuunnelmia, tv-sarjoja. Hänen kirjojaan on käännetty mm. saksaksi, ruotsiksi, viroksi, unkariksi ja tshekiksi. Vuonna 2009 Katzille myönnettiin kirjallisuuden valtionpalkinto. Nykyään kirjailija asuu Loviisassa.
