Women Art Dealers brings together fascinating case studies of galleries run by women between the 1940s and 1980s. It marks a departure from other work in the field of art markets, challenging male-dominated histories by analyzing the work of female dealers who anticipated the global model, worked to promote art across continents, and thus developed an international art market. Part 1 focuses on the women gallerists behind the promotion of modern art after World War II who participated in important research about the neo-Avant-Garde. Part 2 examines the contributions by women art dealers toward the birth of new markets – through establishing the reputation of artistic genres, such as video art and photography, and working at the forefront of advancing contemporary art. Finally, Part 3 analyzes case studies from the southern European art scene, paying fresh attention to several under-researched markets in the region like Italy and Portugal. Each chapter study provides a historiographic profile of the gallery under discussion and critical analysis is supported with a wide range of visual material including portraits of the women art dealers, photographs of the exhibitions they managed, and printed documentation like catalogues, invitations, and posters that were often used to support artists on display in experimental ways.

"The National Gallery of Canada: Ideas, Art, and Architecture examines the National Gallery as an institution, a collection, and a series of sites for the display of the nation's art. Douglas Ord explores how, throughout the gallery's development, art has consistently been linked to notions of religious truth, national spirit, and hallowed atmosphere, culminating in Moshe Safdie's design for the institution's current building. Integrating accounts of political intrigue and public controversy with philosophy, art theory, and architectural analysis, Ord provides vivid accounts of successive directors' struggles to obtain a permanent home for the nation's art and sheds light on the place and the role of art in Canada."--Résumé de l'éditeur.

Cande Er Furtun written by Selen Ansen and has been published by Arter Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-01 with Art categories.

From the 1960s onwards, Candeğer Furtun has produced ceramic works informed by problematics relating to life, philosophy, history, society and politics, featuring an original approach in terms of both form and material. Published on the occasion of the artist’s first retrospective exhibition (16/09/2021–17/04/2022) held at Arter, this book provides a visual and conceptual record of Furtun’s production throughout the years, while granting visibility to the pioneering contributions she made to the art of ceramics as well as the multiple facets of her artistic practice, sustained by an unmediated relationship with the earth. Opening with a curatorial introductory text whereby Selen Ansen broaches the artist’s work under the aegis of the three-year-long preparation process of the exhibition along the concept of “bark”, the book features, in addition to an extensive conversation with the artist by Hanife Ölmez, which sheds light on the experiences that shaped both Furtun’s life and her artistic journey, a text written by Füreya Koral for Furtun in 1994, which is presented to the reader for the very first time in this publication. While a text written by author Latife Tekin specifically for this occasion is followed by an art historical exploration by Deniz Artun, ceramic artists Christie Brown, Phoebe Cummings, Sakine Çil and Yasemin Özcan also provide a written account of their “encounters” with Furtun’s work. Poet Francis Ponge’s “Unfinished Ode to Mud”, texts by Melike Abasıyanık Kurtiç, Ayda Arel, Gottfried Borrmann and Seyhun Topuz focusing on various periods and layers of Furtun’s production as well as archival photographs reflecting the artist’s educational experiences seminal in her ceramic journey, past exhibitions and production processes in her studio help further broaden the scope of this monography. Designed by Emre Çıkınoğlu, the book also features exhibition and reproduction photographs by Hadiye Cangökçe and flufoto (Barış Aras and Elif Çakırlar).

Kings And Connoisseurs written by Jonathan Brown and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-08-15 with Art categories.

A vivid and exciting account of royal collectors, art dealers, connoisseurs, and the rise of old master paintings Old master paintings are among the most valuable and prestigious of the visual arts, and the best examples command the highest prices of any luxury commodity. In Kings and Connoisseurs, Jonathan Brown tells the story of how painting rose to this exalted status. The transformation of painting from an inexpensive to a costly art form reached a crucial stage in the royal courts of Europe in the seventeenth century, where rulers and aristocrats assembled huge collections, often in short periods of time. By comparing collecting and collectors at these courts, Brown explains the formation of new attitudes toward pictures, as well as the mechanisms that supported the enterprise of collecting, including the emergence of the art dealer, the development of connoisseurship, and the publication of sumptuous picture books of various collections. The result is an exciting narrative of greed and passion, played out against a background of international politics and intrigue.
