Née en 1893 à Marseille, Berry Albrecht épouse un banquier et fonde une famille à Londres. Dans les années 1930, revenue en France, elle devient surintendante d'usine et milite en faveur des droits des femmes avant de vivre une grande passion avec Henri Frenay, saint-cyrien catholique de douze ans son cadet qu'elle entraîne dans sa lutte contre le nazisme : ils fondent ensemble le mouvement de résistance Combat. Le 28 mai 1943, elle est arrêtée et incarcérée à la prison de Fresnes ; trois jours plus tard, elle y meurt dans des circonstances longtemps restées mystérieuses. Le 26 août suivant, de Gaulle lui décerne la Croix de la Libération faisant d'elle l'une des six femmes Compagnons de la Libération.

This study examines French women's writing and representations of the Occupation in post-'68 France. The author looks at the work of 'The Women Resisters', those women who were adult resisters during the war, and 'The Daughters of the Occupation', those who were born during or after the war period. The main contention of the study is that the older generation's nascent awareness of how gender informs political activism is reworked into explicitly feminist representations of wartime France by younger women writers.
