Between Earth and Empire focuses on the crucial position of humanity at the present moment in Earth history. We are now in the midst of the Necrocene, an epoch of death and mass extinction. Nearing the end of the long history of Empire and domination, we are faced with the choice of either continuing the path of social and ecological disintegration or initiating a new era of social and ecological regeneration. The book shows that conventional approaches to global crisis on both the right and the left have succumbed to processes of denial and disavowal, either rejecting the reality of crisis entirely or substituting ineffectual but comforting gestures and images for deep, systemic social transformation. It is argued that a large-scale social and ecological regeneration must be rooted in communities of liberation and solidarity, fostering personal and group transformation so that a culture of awakening and care can emerge. Between Earth and Empire explores examples of significant progress in this direction, including the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, the Democratic Autonomy Movement in Rojava, indigenous movements in defense of the commons, the solidarity economy movement, and efforts to create liberated base communities and affinity groups within anarchism and other radical social movements. In the end, the book presents a vision of hope for social and ecological regeneration through the rebirth of a libertarian and communitarian social imaginary, and the flourishing of a free cooperative community globally.

Sequel to The Course of Empire When humans and their Jao overlords joined forces in a desperate battle to save the Earth from the malevolent race called the Ekhat, the relationship between the two species was changed forever. Two years later, humans and Jao are learning to work together in an uneasy alliance. Then, in a distant nebula, three Jao ships detect signs of another sentient species during a battle with the Ekhat. Only one of the ships returns, with most of its crew dead or injured. Earth's Preceptor Ronz suspects the unknown species was actually the Lleix, a name out of the Jao's past, and an ancient shame from the period in their development when they themselves were still ruled by the maniacal Ekhat. Ronz sends the Lexington, a massive ship built on Earth and crewed by both human and Jao, to investigate. The Lexington dwarfs any ship ever built by the Jao and even outmasses Ekhat ships, which may enable it to survive the attack that destroyed two of the three Jao ships. But if the expedition does find a surviving remnant of the Lleix, will the survivors trust the Jao? And should they? Earth Empire has developed incredible technology, and it has taken humans half way across the galaxy. Entire sentient species have been conquered, their worlds and inhabitants exploited brutally. Human technology and social structure has been used efficiently, but not wisely. A sense of malaise has gripped nearly all of the people, and they yearn for something better. Lost in a fog of bizarre state imposed controls, supported by endless propaganda, they don't know how to escape their meaningless existence. They don't even know what they want. At the outermost base called Faraway, a small group of humans learn of some ancient writings, although incomplete, suggesting there is more to life. Immersing themselves in the new way, they start discovering thoughts like respect, compassion, community, beauty, purpose, and especially love. It's a tenuous beginning, and there are those who will suppress the adherents of the new way. A struggle begins between the two opposing ways. The struggle spreads across the galaxy, and even beyond - from Faraway.

A new novel in New York Times best seller Eric Flint's science fiction Jao Empire series. It has become clear to both the Jao and their human and Lleix partners that if they are going to defeat the Ekhat who have been terrorizing the galaxy for eons, they need more allies. To that end, Preceptor Ronz, guardian of Earth and greatest living strategist of the Jao, has harnessed the energy of Earth's humans to create and send out an exploration fleet under the command of Caitlin Kralik. But after a long search, all the expedition has found are dead worlds and now-extinct intelligent species slaughtered by the genocidal Ekhat. Do they continue to search down the galactic arm in which Earth and the Jao worlds lie, or do they make an astounding leap in another direction? With friends like Gabe Tully, Tamt, Wrot and Caewithe Miller supporting her, Caitlin makes her decision. Meanwhile, the Ekhat, as murderous and destructive as they have always been, have a new generation of leaders growing into power who are even more implacable than those who have gone before them. Fifteen thousand years ago, in the period between the glacial eras, a great war broke out.The mentals that lived at that time were divided into groups and fought against each other with the aim of defending their ideologies, using armies of zombies, golems the size of skyscrapers and erupting volcanoes as well as the sea itself to achieve it as they divided the whole world into three gigantic empires, the empires of lightning, fire and water. Thus becoming its rulers. How could a family have been dysfunctional enough to generate such chaos? And what about lovers, rivals, brothers and friends? If you had been one of them for what reason would you have chosen your side? Because he was the one who defended the ideas you believed in or because he was the one where the people you loved were?It is in the middle of this context that Laura and the fire family raised up as an important military clan and after the agreement they made with the white demon, they become the most powerful between all clans having kept "the peace" within their world for more than two thousand years now, but nothing lasts forever and there are olds and news enemies now in the frontiers of the fire empire, disposed to turn over their game.
