Thailand Beyond the Crisis includes recent research to give an accurate and up to date picture of the status of Thailand's economic recovery. The Asian economic crisis began in Thailand and ended a decade of sustained economic boom. This book identifies the role of policy errors involving both the Thai government and the IMF that lead to the crash of the fastest growing economy in the world. Warr addresses the consequences of the crisis, including sharply increased poverty incidence and a backlog of non- performing loans which clogged the banking system, delaying recovery. Key content includes: * the Social Consequences of the crisis, and alternatives * public sector reform * implications of a floating exchange rate * education * urbanisation and the environment.

Beyond Einstein Gravity written by Salvatore Capozziello and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-27 with Science categories.
Beyond Einstein’s Gravity is a graduate level introduction to extended theories of gravity and cosmology, including variational principles, the weak-field limit, gravitational waves, mathematical tools, exact solutions, as well as cosmological and astrophysical applications. The book provides a critical overview of the research in this area and unifies the existing literature using a consistent notation. Although the results apply in principle to all alternative gravities, a special emphasis is on scalar-tensor and f(R) theories. They were studied by theoretical physicists from early on, and in the 1980s they appeared in attempts to renormalize General Relativity and in models of the early universe. Recently, these theories have seen a new lease of life, in both their metric and metric-affine versions, as models of the present acceleration of the universe without introducing the mysterious and exotic dark energy. The dark matter problem can also be addressed in extended gravity. These applications are contributing to a deeper understanding of the gravitational interaction from both the theoretical and the experimental point of view. An extensive bibliography guides the reader into more detailed literature on particular topics.

Nonlinear Physics From Vibration Control To Rogue Waves And Beyond written by Attilio Maccari and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-02-13 with Mathematics categories.
This textbook is devoted to nonlinear physics, using the asymptotic perturbation method as a mathematical tool. The theory is developed systematically, starting with nonlinear oscillators, limit cycles and their bifurcations, followed by iterated nonlinear maps, continuous systems, nonlinear partial differential equations (NPDEs) and culminating with infinite-period bifurcation in the nonlinear Schrodinger equation and fractal and chaotic solutions in NPDEs. A remarkable feature of the book is its emphasis on applications. It offers several examples, and the scientific background is explained at an elementary level and closely integrated with the mathematical theory. In addition, it is ideal for an introductory course at the senior or first-year graduate level.

Electrical Coronas written by Leonard B. Loeb and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-15 with Science categories.
Electrical Coronas: Their Basic Physical Mechanisms explores the fascinating and often overlooked phenomenon of electrical corona discharges, which, despite their seemingly inconspicuous nature, play a crucial role in various industrial and scientific processes. Ranging from small, imperceptible glow discharges in air to larger glowing spheres such as St. Elmo's fire, coronas are vital to many applications, including high-tension power lines, air pollution control, and electrochemical processes. These discharges also contribute to important technologies like Geiger counters and are utilized in processes such as dry-process ore beneficiation and the discharging of statically electrified aircraft. The study of coronas offers valuable insights into electrical breakdown in gases, a key area of physics that has advanced significantly since the 1930s with improved experimental techniques. The book provides an in-depth analysis of corona discharges, emphasizing their importance in understanding the processes of electrical breakdown in gases. By examining these discharges, which occur in highly asymmetrical electrical fields, researchers can isolate and study the mechanisms of breakdown that are often obscured in more complex discharge processes. This work is essential for both theoretical advancements in gaseous electronics and practical applications in engineering. Key discoveries, such as the Hermstein glow discharge and insights into the streamer mechanism of electrical sparks, are discussed in detail. The book also delves into the applications of corona discharges in devices like Geiger counters and the propagation of breakdown in coaxial cylindrical geometries, making it an invaluable resource for those studying electrical discharges and their practical implications. This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press’s mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. Ash is a beautifully illustrated account of the botanical and cultural faces of the ash tree. The book maps the tree’s evolution and geographical spread across the entire Northern Hemisphere over the last 44 million years, and describes the 43 species that grace the planet today. Edward Parker also explores the botany, cultural history, and medicinal uses of the tree, from its significance in ancient Indo-European cultures, to its remarkable properties in treating Alzheimer’s disease. In addition he looks at topical issues, such as the devastating effects that the spread of the emerald ash borer beetle and the ash dieback fungal infection are having on Northern Hemisphere forests.

Sixty Years Of Double Beta Decay From Nuclear Physics To Beyond Standard Model written by Hans Volker Klapdor-kleingrothaus and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-04-30 with Science categories.
Nuclear double beta decay is one of the most promising tools for probing beyond-the-standard-model physics on beyond-accelerator energy scales. It is already now probing the TeV scale, on which new physics should manifest itself according to theoretical expectations. Only in the early 1980s was it known that double beta decay yields information on the Majorana mass of the exchanged neutrino. At present, the sharpest bound for the electron neutrino mass arises from this process. It is only in the last 10 years that the much more far-reaching potential of double beta decay has been discovered. Today, the potential of double beta decay includes a broad range of topics that are equally relevant to particle physics and astrophysics, such as masses of heavy neutrinos, of sneutrinos, as SUSY models, compositeness, leptoquarks, left-right symmetric models, and tests of Lorentz symmetry and equivalence principle in the neutrino sector. Double beta decay has become indispensable nowadays for solving the problem of the neutrino mass spectrum and the structure of the neutrino mass matrix — together with present and future solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillation experiments. Some future double beta experiments (like GENIUS) will be capable to be simultaneously neutrino observatories for double beta decay and low-energy solar neutrinos, and observatories for cold dark matter of ultimate sensitivity. This invaluable book outlines the development of double beta research from its beginnings until its most recent achievements, and also presents the outlook for its highly exciting future.
