The book consists of a series of memoir pieces about my early life from childhood through school, college and law school and marriage. The book contains sketches of my two grandmothers, one Irish, one Yankee, my parents, including my father's traumas follow WWII, my two younger brothers, and vignettes about how I navigated through the narrow world into which I was born and ultimately escaped. The book deals with my Irish Catholic upbringing and how it crashed against my decision to marry a Jew. It vividly describes the circumscribed life I inherited and how I ultimately found a way out.

Beyond the Sangres is a family saga that tells of the life long struggle of Zan and Liette to reconcile their heritage with the forces that run rough shod over their lives in the later half of the twentieth century. Beyond the Sangres reveals what happens to people of mixed ancestry when they are entangled by ties to divergent cultures. This powerful first Novel is a tale about the failure and success of adaptation and the creation of a new ethnicity. It is a story of love: love of the land, love of country, love of a lost way of life, and the love of a woman and man for each other. The heroism of human longing and the anguish of revolution set the stage in Beyond the Sangres for rebirth in a new creation. 'Beyond the Sangre' reveals an America that few know, but many long for. This book is as enigmatic as its title and and has layer upon layer of meaning. If you want a unique read about a yet to be discovered America, read 'Beyond the Sangres.'

Black Aesthetics And The Interior Life written by Christopher Freeburg and has been published by University of Virginia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-12 with Social Science categories.

Christopher Freeburg’s Black Aesthetics and the Interior Life offers a crucial new reading of a neglected aspect of African American literature and art across the long twentieth century. Rejecting the idea that the most dehumanizing of black experiences, such as lynching or other racial violence, have completely robbed victims of their personhood, Freeburg rethinks what it means to be a person in the works of black artists. This book advances the idea that individual persons always retain the ability to withhold, express, or change their ideas, and this concept has profound implications for long-held assumptions about the relationship between black interior life and black collective political interests. Examining an array of seminal black texts—from Ida B. Wells’s antilynching pamphlets to works by Richard Wright, Nina Simone, and Toni Morrison—Freeburg demonstrates that the personhood represented by these writers unsettles rather than automatically strengthens black subjects’ relationships to political movements such as racial uplift, civil rights, and black nationalism. He shows how black artists illuminate the challenges of racial collectivity while stressing the vital stakes of individual personhood. In his challenge to current African Americanist criticism, Freeburg makes a striking contribution to our understanding of African American literature and culture.

Arriving, book one of Corinne Jeffery’s Understanding Ursula trilogy, vividly recreates the pioneer world of the Canadian prairies with a multitude of memorable characters. You’ll lose yourself between the pages as you watch them struggle to survive and flourish, always at the mercy of Mother Nature and the ever-changing seasons on the unfettered plains. On July 1, 1909, the day after his eighteenth birthday, Gustav Werner takes the inaugural ride on the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway between Melville and Regina, to apply for a homestead grant at the Dominion Lands Office. He is eager to become the most thriving homesteader in the townships of Neudorf and Lemberg, Saskatchewan, set aside for Gustav’s people, the German Lutherans, by Sir Clifford Sifton in Canada’s “Last Best West” land deal. What he doesn’t realize is that beyond becoming a man and a landowner, life as he knows it is about to crumble from his grasp. Family drama and conflict plague Gustav as he learns English—the language that sparks hatred in his staunchly traditional father, Christian—and discovers that his parents have arranged his marriage to sixteen-year-old Amelia Schweitzer.
