In this Old West tale of deceit, revenge, and greed, full of scoundrels, rogues, and desperadoes on a lawless frontier, John Barton learns what it takes to become a man. Chasing his boyhood dream of staking his claim in the Mauvaises Terres, the Badlands of the Dakota Territory, John Barton comes face to face with the undeniable truth that the only winners in life are those willing to take their destiny into their own hands. Signing on to a cattle drive to the Dakota Territory, he is duped into taking part in a dangerous cattle-rustling foray deep into Mexico. Unable to turn back, he fights to survive in a life-or-death struggle during a grueling cattle drive, beset by violent storms, renegade Indians, and men seeking revenge. Finally staking his claim, he confronts the deeper meaning of his lifelong quest and of the mysterious spiritual roots of a land and its people that will forever lie somewhere beyond the horizon.

During the period of Aztec expansion and empire (ca. 1325–1525), scribes of high social standing used a pictographic writing system to paint hundreds of manuscripts detailing myriad aspects of life, including historical, calendric, and religious information. Following the Spanish conquest, native and mestizo tlacuiloque (artist-scribes) of the sixteenth century continued to use pre-Hispanic pictorial writing systems to record information about native culture. Three of these manuscripts—Codex Boturini, Codex Azcatitlan, and Codex Aubin—document the origin and migration of the Mexica people, one of several indigenous groups often collectively referred to as “Aztec.” In Portraying the Aztec Past, Angela Herren Rajagopalan offers a thorough study of these closely linked manuscripts, articulating their narrative and formal connections and examining differences in format, style, and communicative strategies. Through analyses that focus on the materials, stylistic traits, facture, and narrative qualities of the codices, she places these annals in their historical and social contexts. Her work adds to our understanding of the production and function of these manuscripts and explores how Mexica identity is presented and framed after the conquest.

Ancient Monuments Of The Mississippi Valley written by Ephraim G. Squier and has been published by Smithsonian Institution this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-27 with History categories.

Originally published in 1848 as the first major work in the nascent discipline as well as the first publication of the newly established Smithsonian Institution, Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley remains today not only a key document in the history of American archaeology but also the primary source of information on hundreds of mounds and earthworks in the eastern United States, most of which have now vanished. Despite adhering to the popular assumption that the moundbuilders could not have been the ancestors of the supposedly savage Native American groups still living in the region, the authors set high standards for their time. Their work provides insight into some of the conceptual, methodological, and substantive issues that archaeologists still confront. Long out of print, this 150th anniversary edition includes David J. Meltzer's lively introduction, which describes the controversies surrounding the book’s original publication, from a bitter, decades-long feud between Squier and Davis to widespread debates about the links between race, religion, and human origins. Complete with a new index and bibliography, and illustrated with the original maps, plates, and engravings, Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley provides a new generation with a first-hand view of this pioneer era in American archaeology.

Legends Of Lhiosquor written by Trent Coleman and has been published by WestBow Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04 with Fiction categories.

This first book in the After Eden series chronicles the rise of nations from the descendants of Cain and the descendants of Seth. When a branch of Cain's line gives rise to the abominable race of Giants, Seth and his followers lay the foundations of the great city of Lhiosquor. With divine help, the people of Lhiosquor manage to prevent the first generation of Giants from subjugating the human race. However, it is not long before decisions made by some of Seth's descendants set in motion a prophesied sequence of catastrophic events. A new generation of Giants arises, threatening to destroy the City of Light from without as the ambition and machinations of the powerful threaten it from within. At this time, God raises up the prophet Enoch. Descended from both the line of Seth and the line of Cain, Enoch presents a choice to the people of Lhiosquor and all other free peoples of the world: acknowledge God and receive His favour, or fall to the cruel dominion of the Giants.
