Cipriano de Valera comenzó en 1582 la primera revisión de la Biblia de Reina y la concluyó en 1602. El título original de la revisión de Valera fue La Biblia que es, los sacros libros del Viejo y Nuevo Testamento, segunda edición. Se publicó en Ámsterdam, Países Bajos, y llegó a ser la versión de la Biblia en castellano más difundida durante varios siglos. Era conocida también como la Biblia del Cántaro debido a la ilustración que estaba en la portada: un hombre que está plantando un árbol, mientras otro hombre lo riega con agua que sale de un cántaro. La ilustración estaría aludiendo a primera de Corintios 3:6, según algunos expertos. A partir de la Biblia del Cántaro se han realizado diversas revisiones a lo largo de los años. esta biblia es excelente porque no a sido alterado su contenido.

Es la primera revisión a la Biblia del Oso de Casiodoro de Reina que Cipriano Valera inició en 1582 y concluyó en 1602. A partir de allí esta traducción de la biblia es conocida mayormente como Reina Valera. Llegó a ser la versión de la Biblia en castellano más difundida durante varios siglos. Era conocida también como la Biblia del Cántaro por la ilustración en su portada: un hombre plantando un árbol, mientras otro lo riega con agua que sale de un cántaro. Las Sociedades Bíblicas Unidas han eliminado muchas formas antiguas del idioma español y han actualizado algunos elementos de estilo, pero a la vez conservando en lo posible la forma como Reina escribió su obra, lo que se denomina como equivalencia formal.

This book is the first that describes the practices of any stock exchange; it makes evident a high development of practices, with puts, calls, pools, and manipulations; and it appeared as early as the seventeenth century. Not inappropriately the stock exchange described is that of Amsterdam, a city which at the date of the volume’s publication —1688 — was still the leading financial center of the world. The book, to be sure, is hardly a systematic account of the institution; the author pursued moral, philosophical, and rhetorical objectives, and, while saying a lot that seems now to be of little value, manages somehow to leave unsaid a great deal that would be of interest for us. Nevertheless, it represents, even in its peculiar form, a really important source of information about the stock exchange, and indeed about the Dutch business world of that period.
