Finding Hagar probes the relentless pursuit by the living God of a fugitive woman who falls outside the line of his chosen people. This pursuit ensures Hagar’s destiny by giving her an identity as one who is seen and known by God himself. Hagar’s story centers around a deeply personal dialogue with God concerning her past and her future, her story and her dreams; and while his promises are rooted in her reality, they also carry her forward to a new horizon of hope. Often recognized as one of the Bible’s most powerful stories of God’s love, which is always undeserved and unmerited, this book is a reminder of God’s abundant grace towards all people at a time when there is much division and animosity towards the descendants of Hagar. As we witness major displacement of peoples around the world, the story of Hagar – of God’s encounter with a displaced and oppressed woman – inspires hope and purpose for today’s fractured global community.

Hagar, also spelled Agar, in the Old Testament, Abraham's concubine and the mother of his son Ishmael. Purchased in Egypt, she served as a maid to Abraham's childless wife, Sarah, who gave her to Abraham to conceive an heir. This book highlights some of today's major world issues seen through the lens of the Biblical story of Hagar. Throughout the book, the author takes the reader on a journey examining the turbulent story of Hagar and what her story teaches us today about contemporary issues such as the refugee crisis, modern-day slavery, racism, and homelessness. The book concludes by looking at the subject of forgiveness and using the story of the unlikely reconciliation between Ishmael and Isaac to present a view of a possible peace through Jesus Christ between all three Abrahamic faiths, Islam Christianity and Judaism, and other religions.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Theologie - Biblische Theologie, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: When one looks to the book of Genesis, the main story, which comes to mind, is the story of Creation, the Fall of Adam and Eve. Next there is Cain and Abel, continuing on to Jacob, to Joseph and from that line comes Moses. Years earlier, between these, the centered character of this paper, is Abraham. Now we hear terms for Abraham that come from God’s promises to him, being a father of many, and a great follower of God. However, looking closer at Genesis 16, it is inevitable for one to question these claims about Abraham, his family, and even to question God’s promises and the truth within them. Throughout this paper, we will look closer at Genesis 16 and the story of Hagar and Sarah, discovering what happens when one disregards God’s will, and how God truly works through every point in time, even when it seems like life is at the lowest point it can be.
