English summary: Libraries have traditionally played an important role as informational intermediaries for scholarship. While during the 19th century, libraries chiefly supplied available books for local reasons, they have developed in the age of information technologies and networking into providers of online access and services. These developments have not only changed the role of the library, but they have also changed their relationship with users, authors, content-creators, publishers, and media service providers. Consequently, new legal challenges have also developed that seek to provide a balance between access to copyright protected materials and the protection of rights over those materials. Monika Duppelfeld discusses the development of this necessary balance in which the library is at the center of her study, for which she limits her legal considerations to empirical inquiry and analysis. German description: Bibliotheken spielen als Informationsintermediare traditionell eine bedeutende Rolle fur die Wissenschaft. Wahrend sie seit dem 19. Jahrhundert vorwiegend Bucher fur Leser vor Ort bereithielten, entwickeln sie sich im Zeitalter moderner Informationstechnologien und Vernetzung zu Online-Dienstleistern. Damit andert sich nicht nur die Rolle der Bibliothek, sondern es andern sich auch ihre Beziehungen zu Nutzern, Urhebern, Verlagen und Telemedienanbietern.
