In English for the first time, a wild and darkly funny book that combines Surrealist painter Leonora Carringon's fantastical writing and illustrations for children The maverick surrealist Leonora Carrington was an extraordinary painter and storyteller who loved to make up stories and draw pictures for her children. She lived much of her life in Mexico, and her sons remember sitting in a big room whose walls were covered with images of wondrous creatures, towering mountains, and ferocious vegetation while she told fabulous and funny tales. That room was later whitewashed, but some of its wonders were preserved in the little notebook that Carrington called The Milk of Dreams. John, who has wings for ears, Humbert the Beautiful, an insufferable kid who befriends a crocodile and grows more insufferable yet, and the awesome Janzamajoria are all to be encountered in The Milk of Dreams, a book that is as unlikely, outrageous, and dreamy as dreams themselves.

The publication Robert Zhao Renhui: Seeing Forest, Volume 1 of 2 accompanies Robert Zhao Renhui’s eponymous exhibition at the Singapore Pavilion at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, 20 April to 24 November 2024, curated by Haeju Kim and organized by Singapore Art Museum. In addition to conceptual sequences of Zhao Renhui’s images and curator Haeju Kim’s essay, this companion book gathers an assemblage of texts from various times, authors, contexts, and sources. Organized in the “Reader” section at the center of the volume, these archival pieces range from publications going as far back as 1883 to being as recent as 2020. Juxtaposing scientific and philosophical analyses with artistic interventions, storytelling, and critical reflection, the selection echoes and reverberates an interest in different ways of knowing mobilized by . Two newly commissioned essays, by environmental historian Marcus Yee and writer Jeffrey Kastner, offer in-depth meditations specifically on the artist’s practice and current intervention. As a special treat, in the concluding piece, Zhao interviews his friend and long-standing collaborator Yong Ding Li about their respective and shared experiences of working across art and ecology in Singapore.

Imagining the future of cohabitation in Venice and beyond Conceived as a record that delves deeper into a special section of the Biennale Architettura 2021, Co-habitats comprises essays and photo essays that pertain to specific geographic locations. While the main exhibition is primarily organized in five parts that contemplate a new spatial contract at five scales--as diverse beings, as new households, as emerging communities, across borders and as one planet--this volume showcases analytical examples of how we come together at all five of them in and around Venice, as well as in Addis Ababa, Beirut, India, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, New York, Prishtina and more.

Meditations inspired by Polys Peslikas's exhbition at the Cyprus Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale. Faint on stage? Umm Kulthum never did. It was the the audience that swooned when she sang. ButwWhat if, overcome by the power of her song, the singer herself had passed out? What would have ensued during the sudden silence? Umm Kulthum faints on stage is the title Polys Peslikas coined for one of the paintings in his exhibition The future of colour at the Cyprus Pavilion during the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017. This book offers stories and thoughts inspired by Peslikas's paintings. A retrospective meditation on the exhibition, the book includes a piece of punk existentialist poetry by the artist group Neoterismoi Toumazou; an interview of celebrated ceramist Valentinos Charalambous by pavilion curator Jan Verwoert, conducted during a visit to Nefertiti's bust at the Neues Museum in Berlin; a short story by New York-based artist-writer Mirene Arsanios, echoing the 1980s childhood experience of temporarily living in Cyprus; and a contextual essay about the work of Peslikas. Contributors Mirene Arsanios, Valentinos Charalambous, Louli Michaelidou, Neoterismoi Toumazou, Jan Verwoert
