This book theorizes shadow education as a new component of curriculum, expanding the concept of curriculum to include this type of learning. Curriculum scholars and theorists have largely disregarded shadow education as a valid topic of scholarly attention despite its massive growth worldwide. But shadow education has become a global phenomenon with ever-increasing numbers of student participants; it complements school-based curricula, in many cases going beyond. Thus, Jung and Kim argue that shadow education requires rigorous analysis by curriculum studies scholars. Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Schulwesen, Bildungs- u. Schulpolitik, Note: 3,0, Universität Osnabrück, Veranstaltung: Bildung, Kultur und Gesellschaft, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Debatten um die Bildungsungleichheit sind im 21. Jahrhundert präsenter denn je. Die Diskussionen um die Bildung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland gehören zu einer der wichtigsten sozialen Fragen dieses Jahrhunderts. Die bildungspolitischen Missstände sind hauptsächlich durch die Ergebnisse der so genannten PISA-Studie, die erstmalig im Jahr 2001 veröffentlicht wurde, offen gelegt und in diesem Ausmaß bewusst wahrgenommen worden. Sowohl die Politiker als auch die Gesellschaft er-kannten, dass die Probleme des Bildungssystems weitaus gravierender sind, als zuvor angenommen. Es wurde erkannt, dass die Bildungsgerechtigkeit, die seit mehr als einem halben Jahrhundert angestrebt wurde, gescheitert ist. In der PISA-Studie wur-de festgestellt, dass die deutschen Schüler eher mittelmäßige Ergebnisse erzielen. Zudem wurde befunden, dass in keinem anderen Land der Bildungserfolg derart stark von der sozialen Herkunft der Schüler abhängt wie in Deutschland. Sowohl die Bildungsreform als auch der Ausbau der weiterführenden Bildung konnten dieses Ergebnis nicht verhindern. Aufgrund der erzielten schlechten Ergebnisse in der PISA-Studie sind von Politikern und Pädagogen diverse Überlegungen und Untersu-chungen zur Behebung dieser Bildungslücken angestellt und mehr oder weniger plausible Erklärungsversuche und Theorien aufgestellt worden. Auf diese wird am Ende der Hausarbeit eingegangen. Diese Hausarbeit basiert insbesondere auf dem Auszug des Kapitels 4 von Bernhard Gill "Schule in der Wissensgesellschaft", wie auch dem Buch "Bildung als Privileg" von Rolf Becker und verschiedenen Ergebnissen der PISA-Studie.
