This edited volume aims to critically discuss in how far the national orientation of schools and teacher education is appropriate in light of increasing migration and transnationality. The contributions offer ideas from teacher education research and school pedagogical practice in different nation-state contexts such as Austria, Canada, Chile, Greece, Israel, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, the UK, and the USA. They ask which empirical and theoretical approaches are suitable for describing the phenomena of pedagogical-professional dealings with migration-related and transnational demands on schools. Global migration movements are also reflected in classrooms. However, the professional re-entry of migrant teachers with and without a refugee background has been neglected for a long time. This publication, which was developed in the European project "International Teachers for Tomorrow's School" (ITTS), is dedicated to this question. In seven country contributions, the opportunities and challenges of returning to work in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Poland, Slovenia and Türkiye are examined – for some of the countries, new ground was broken. It is shown which conditions favour, challenge or prevent a new professional start. In addition, the results of the cross-national ITTS study are presented, in which high satisfaction values are reflected among those teachers who succeeded in re-entering the profession despite many hurdles. Finally, the findings of the project are condensed into a series of hints and recommendations.

Education is considered key for societies to achieve greater social cohesion and equality. Yet, schools, as the main providers of formal education, have increasingly come into question concerning their role in manifesting and perpetuating social categorisations, inequalities and discrimination instead of decreasing existing fragmentations and challenging power relations and hierarchies. As a diverse society, Kenya is faced with power struggles and rivalries between different groups - for instance, along ethnic lines, often constructed deep in colonial history. This affects teaching and learning in school and the result is that Kenya is faced with vast disparities in terms of educational access and success - rendering some social groups marginalised and others favoured. Positioning Diversity at Kenyan Schools explores the ways in which teachers in Kenyan primary and secondary schools experience and deal with social categorisations and diversity in terms of ethnicity, gender, wealth, culture, religion, etc. in their professional practice and in the current education system.
