Hat der Schweizer Bildungsföderalismus eine Zukunft? Mit der neuen Bildungsverfassung 2006 und den Harmonisierungsbemühungen der Schweizerischen Konferenz der kantonalen Erziehungsdirektoren (EDK) ist die Schweiz auf dem Weg zu einem Bildungswesen, in dem zuerst kantonale, immer deutlicher aber auch nationale Grenzen relativiert werden. Das Buch zeigt auf, dass die Diskussionen um die Aufgabenverteilung zwischen Bund und Kantonen im Bildungsbereich keineswegs neu sind. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die schulische politische Bildung in der Schweiz unter zwei Perspektiven untersucht: Zum einen in einem quellengeschichtlichen Zugang, der bis in die Phase des revolutionaren Umbruchs in der Schweiz zuriick reicht (1798) und Geschichte und Gegenwart des "staatskundlichen Unterrichts"--So der noch heute gebrauch lichste deutschschweizer Begriff - nachzeichnet (Stand der verarbeiteten Literatur: bis 1989) - zum anderen wird in einem empirischen Teil versucht, die gegenwartige Praxis des politischen unterrichts in der Schweiz darzustellen (Lehrerumfrage 1985/86 im franzosischsprachigen Landesteil). Aus zwei parallel angelegten Projekten wahrend eines mehrjah rigen Auslandsschuldienstes (Kanton Vaud) entstanden, ermog lichen beide Teile der Arbeit eine Neuakzentuierung unter komparativem Aspekt: ausdriicklich nicht einer regiona len/national en Perspektive verhaftet, eroffnet die Untersu chung auch Vergleiche der schweizer politischen Bildung zu jener der Nachbarlander Deutschland und Frankreich, die somit auch dazu beitragen kann, eine neue Forschungs- und Analyse ebene weiter aufzufachern, in der sich der (deutschsprachige) Literaturstand offenbar noch recht begrenzt darstellt: Poli tische Bildung in Europa
