Aktuell sind bis zu 1,6 Millionen Menschen in Deutschland an Demenz erkrankt, bis zum Jahr 2050 wird sich diese Zahl voraussichtlich verdoppelt haben. Grund dafür ist die demografische Entwicklung einer immer älter werdenden Gesellschaft. Aufgrund der stark anwachsenden Anzahl der Bevölkerungsgruppe dementieller Kranken ist es wichtig zu wissen, wie man Erinnerungen und das Bewusstsein für die eigene Identität so lange wie möglich bewahrt. Im Folgenden wird sich zuerst den zentralen Begriffen "Biografie" und "Demenz" angenähert. Dann werden Methoden der Biografiearbeit aufgezeigt und auf die Erinnerungsarbeit übertragen, um die Bedeutung der Vergangenheit für Demenzkranke zu verdeutlichen. Anschließend wird auf die Ziele der Biografiearbeit in der Pflege von dementiellen Kranken eingegangen.

Furthermore, a need is felt to reflect on how such attitudes hinder positive practice when communicating with people possessing limited English proficiency and to identify the extent to which nurses take into consideration peoples’ cultures, norms and values. To understand the implications that may arise when professionals display certain attitudes towards people with dementia and limited English language, this assignment will take the form of a reflection which is an important part of nursing practice. Dementia appears to be a major worldwide concern as figures suggest a rapid increase in the number of people diagnosed with this illness. According to Atkins et al (2012), in 2012 almost 25 million people around the globe were diagnosed with dementia and it is expected that by 2040 this number will almost triple. Moreover, World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017 estimated that almost 47 million people were considered to have dementia and this number will continue to grow (WHO, 2017). These figures imply huge costs for society. In fact, Knapp et al. (2014) suggests that in the UK the cost of dementia rose to £26 billion per year.

Originally published in 1973. In this systematic treatise, Anthony Quinton examines the concept of substance, a philosophical refinement of the everyday notion of a thing. Four distinct, but not unconnected, problems about substance are identified: what accounts for the individuality of a thing; what confers identity on a thing; what is the relation between a thing and its appearances; and what kind of thing is fundamental, in the sense that its existence is logically independent of that of any other kind of thing? In Part 1, the first two problems are discussed, while in Part 2, the third and fourth are considered. Part 3 examines four kinds of thing that have been commonly held to be in some way non-material: abstract entities; the un-observable entities of scientific theory; minds and their states; and, finally, values. The author argues that theoretical entities and mental states are, in fact, material. He gives a linguistic account of universals and necessary truths and advances a naturalistic theory of value.
