Prehod sodobnih družb v digitalno stvarnost zastavlja veliko vprašanj humanističnim in družboslovnim raziskovalcem, med njimi tudi snovalcem znanstvenih obravnav biografskih vsebin. Raznovrstne spletne biografske platforme brez neodvisnih uredniških odborov ter vpliv družabnih omrežij, ki uporabnike spodbujajo k zaverovanosti v svoje lastne (svetove) biografije, počasi, a vztrajno preoblikuje tudi mesto, pomen in naravo biografskih študij. Novi pomeni biografije v digitalnih družbah postavljajo pred tradicionalne pisce biografskih vsebin okrepljeno zahtevo o nujnosti ohranjanja znanstvenih standardov na področju biografskih študij, ki so pomembni tako z vidika leksikografije kot kulturnozgodovinskega umeščanja osebnosti v prostor in čas. Prvi del monografije zavzemajo poglavja, ki preizprašujejo odnos družb in posameznikov do digitalne stvarnosti, sledijo poglavja, ki tematizirajo odnos drugih humanističnih ved do biografskih vsebin, medtem ko je zadnji del monografije namenjen poglavjem, ki tematizirajo mesto, pomen in naravo biografije v posameznih zgodovinskih obdobjih.

Medijski diskurzi ključno sooblikujejo javni prostor skupnosti, pri tem pa so posamezne novinarske, uredniške ali publicistične osebnosti pomembni generatorji in svetilniki prevladujočih idejnih vizij. Narava novinarskega, uredniškega ali publicističnega dela zato terja jasno nazorsko usmeritev ustvarjalcev medijskih prispevkov za posredovanje različnih pogledov na življenje v družbi. Kot je običajno v tovrstnih monografijah, ki so izšle v zadnjih letih v okviru Biografskih študij, nas tudi v biografski tematizaciji novinarskih osebnosti zanimajo poklicna, osebna, časovna idr. razmerja avtorjev do obravnavanih osebnosti, ki so v danem primeru še zlasti zgovorna, saj ob biografskih študijah obenem ilustrirajo dolgoživost pisanih spektrov pogledov na razumevanje družbene stvarnosti, ki so jih posamezne novinarske osebnosti povzemale od predhodnikov, jih (so)utemeljevale in s svojim avtorskim prispevkom zastopale ter jih slednjič prenašale na prihodnje generacije. Morda izvemo o slovenskem novinarstvu 20. stoletja več v tej študiji kot v zgodovinskih analizah političnih ideologij in strankarskih zdrah, je zapisala recenzentka Manca Košir.

Bringing together the analyses of the literary world-system, translation studies, and the research of European cultural nationalism, this book contests the view that texts can be attributed global importance irrespective of their origin, language, and position in the international book market. Focusing on Slovenian literature, almost unknown to world literature studies, this book addresses world literature’s canonical function in the nineteenth-century process of establishing European letters as national literatures. Aware of their dependence on imperial powers, (semi)peripheral national movements sought international recognition through, among other things, the newly invented figure of the national poet. Writers central to dependent national communities were canonized to represent their respective cultures to the norm-giving Other – the emerging world literary canon and its aesthetic ideology. Hence, national literatures asserted their linguo-cultural individuality through the process of worlding; that is, by their positioning in the international literary world informed by the supposed universality of the aesthetic.
