Excerpt from Bird Life Stories, Vol. 1: Compiled From the Writings of Audubon, Bend Nuttall, and Wilson HE four writers from whom the chapters in these Bird Life Stories have been drawn are especially notable for the absorb ing interest with which they pursued the study of birds. They were all original investigators, exploring the trackless wilderness in their search for knowledge. Especially was this true of Audubon and Wilson, who laid the foundations of the science of ornithology in America, but it was also true to a less extent of Nuttall and Bendire. This interest which our authors brought to their work has of course been communicated to their writings, so that their accounts of our birds are on the whole the most interesting that have ever been published. In the books of this series I have tried to select for each of the chosen birds that account which seemed the best. I have modified the language and punctuation only so far as was necessary to shorten some sentences, and to render clear the meaning of others. Occasion ally I have omitted parts which had no special modern interest or which our later\knowledge has shown to be incorrect. In this work of revision, as well as in the preparation of the additional notes, I have had the assistance of Mr. Ralph Hoficmann, lecturer on ornithology for the Massackusetts Audubon Society, and Dr. Ned Dearborn of the Field Columbia Museum, Chicago, both expert ornithologists who are thoroughly conversant with the most recent developments of the science. The specimens shown in the colored plates were collected and mounted by Doctor. Dearborn expressly for this work, and the colored plates themselves have been made under his supervision. To both of these gentlemen I am glad to express my hearty thanks, as well as to the officers of the Smithsonian Institution, for permission to use such of the writings of the late Major Bendire as I desired. Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788) was a French mathematician who was considered one of the leading naturalists of the Enlightenment. An acquaintance of Voltaire and other intellectuals, he worked as Keeper at the Jardin du Roi from 1739, and this inspired him to research and publish a vast encyclopaedia and survey of natural history, the ground-breaking Histoire Naturelle, which he published in forty-four volumes between 1749 and 1804. These volumes, first published between 1770 and 1783 and translated into English in 1793, contain Buffon's survey and descriptions of birds from the Histoire Naturelle. Based on recorded observations of birds both in France and in other countries, these volumes provide detailed descriptions of various bird species, their habitats and behaviours and were the first publications to present a comprehensive account of eighteenth-century ornithology. Volume 1 covers birds of prey and flightless birds.

Hi, my name is Jacob Bucy, I am an artist from West Virginia. I began drawing “the Birds “in 1999. What started out as scribbles and doodles in boredom has evolved into my first book. In April of 2021 I began doodling and drawing the various versions of the bird till one day I came home from work and came to the realization I had drawn 5000 drawings in just three weeks. Many things inspired the birds, prehistoric birds, various species like Blue Herons, Ibis, and cranes had a large influence on them. I also drew inspiration from cultures from around the globe. OF the many things that drive me to create, this book began as a result of that day I came home to those 5000 drawings. In 2005 I was diagnosed with bi polar disorder. That night I came home I realized I was in a manic episode. In September I finished writing the first rough drafts for this series. Since April of 2021 to September of 2021 there have been over 8000 drawings and 22 paintings and 36 books in this series. Often in the early days of the birds I would have quirky short stories in my head about a day in the life of these characters. “The Book of the Birds Vol:1 the Tribes of Parlo-5” is my first attempt to bring others into parlo-5 and the lives of the Birds.
