What if taxes were paid through blood withdrawals? What if tax evasion was a crime punishable with imprisonment and enforced by the Bloodbusters? What if donating blood was illegal? In a grotesque Rome, BloodBuster Alan Costa falls in love with Anissa Malesano, a compulsive donor for AN underworld organisation who gives her blood to anyone in need. As a web of deceit and treachery spreads wide around Alan, he begins to wonder if he can trust his colleagues or even his own boss. When Anissa is jailed for tax evasion, Alan is faced with a choice that could cost him everything. Winner of the Urania Award "Full of savage humour, Francesco Verso imagines a tax system in Italy based upon blood. Amazingly this has nothing to do with actual zombies (to bend a bit the word 'actual'). Weirdly, BloodBusters is plausible and powerfully written, a high- spirited page-turner thanks to a great translation by Sally McCorry. Definitely this is the book to read after a holiday in Rome (though maybe not before). I shan't forget in a hurry Verso's Intravenous Revenue or the haemergency sirens and flashers of the taxbulance." Ian Watson, author of the screen story for Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence

From the award winning future-thinker comes a Solar Punk novel packed with near-future ideas from the streets of Rome, with elements of David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer The pulldogs, a group of people at the twilight of Western civilisation, undergo an anthropological transformation caused by the dissemination of nanites (nanorobots capable of assembling molecules to create matter). This technology changes the way they eat and gives rise to a culture which, while reminiscent of an ancient nomadic society, is creative and new. Liberation from the imperative of food, combined with the ability to 3D print objects and use cloud computing, makes it possible for the pulldogs to make a choice that seems impossible and anachronistic – a new life, but is it really an Arcadia?

Eamonn Wall arrived in the United States in the 1980s as part of a wave of young, educated immigrants who became known as the New Irish. In this book he comments on his own experiences and those of his generation, who identify as much with contemporary immigrant America as they do with the long-settled Irish American community. Wall's starting point is the now closed Sin-e Cafe in New York's East Village, which was a hangout in the early 1990s for expatriate Irish musicians, actors and writers. He comments on the poetry, fiction, essays, and memories of both the New Irish and Americans of Irish heritage, locating them within a literary and historical context. This is also a deeply personal book in which Wall wrestles with his own identity as an Irishman living in America, from the streets of Manhattan to the western hills of Nebraska.

The author of Poltergeist Over Scotland embarks on an in-depth study of the characteristics that imbue the paranormal world’s “noisy ghosts.” What Is a Poltergeist? is an introduction to the mysterious phenomenon examining the theories and presenting the latest research evidence for poltergeist activity. In trying to define a poltergeist, author Geoff Holder ponders such questions as: Are they the restless souls of the dead? Demons? Witches’ familiars? Household spirits? Mysterious earth energies? Unknown powers of the mind? Or hoaxes? This ebook takes the well-known poltergeist phenomena—the movement of objects by invisible forces, the noises, the eruptions of fire, water and electrical disturbance—and maps them against changing ideas and beliefs. The author presents the latest theories and research evidence in his search for answers. What is a Poltergeist? is part of The Paranormal, a series that resurrects rare titles, classic publications, and out-of-print texts, as well as publishes new supernatural and otherworldly ebooks for the digital age. The series includes a range of paranormal subjects from angels, fairies, and UFOs to near-death experiences, vampires, ghosts, and witchcraft.

RIVISTA (63 pagine) - FANTASCIENZA - Premio Urania - The Martian - Stranimondi - Mack Reynolds "Il futuro è adesso" recita il titolo dell'editoriale di Carmine Treanni, facendo riferimento al "Back to the Future Day".
