“There is no such thing as magic.” That's what the mysterious stranger named Cassandra tells Bobby after helping him escape from the small army of secret agents who surround his house. The elegantly dressed older woman with the fancy car takes him someplace that appears safe, but can she be trusted? Only a few hours earlier, Bobby won his middle school championship basketball game with a miraculous shot, a shot too incredible to be luck. Afterward, Cassandra shows up, claiming to know Bobby's grandfather––a man he hasn't seen in years––and asks Bobby to go with her. Now the fourteen-year-old boy from the LA suburbs is not sure what to believe. Cassandra claims to have answers, but nothing she says explains why his parents are missing, what the goons outside his house wanted with him, or why inexplicable, seemingly magical things keep happening. Thus begins an epic blend of young adult urban fantasy and spiritual fiction that takes readers on an grand adventure from indoor forests to vast archives; from a labyrinth of jade mines, to encounters with a mother bear turned spirit guide and the dire secrets hidden within her lair. Along the way, Bobby will learn that, while there may be no such thing as magic, there is powerful energy within us all. In fact, the entire universe is connected by energy, and he has the rare ability to control it. Join Bobby and his best friend Jinx––whose abilities never trigger the intended effect––as they avoid school bullies, a suspected assassin, and meta-human henchmen alike to unravel the mysteries of the Academy––the ancient and secret monastery in Tibet where kids with extraordinary potential are sent to study. But is the Academy really what it claims to be? A mysterious locket given to Bobby by his clairvoyant grandfather may hold answers, but first he and his friends have to figure out how to open it. Meanwhile, the leader of the Academics, Headmistress Grayson, has an agenda of her own––one that involves using Bobby for her own nefarious ends. Can Bobby solve the mystery surrounding his grandfather and uncover the truth about the Academy before falling prey to the headmistress's diabolical scheme? A fun, fast-paced adventure story, Bobby Ether and the Academy is a mind-bending, page-turning foray into a super-charged spiritual world full of excitement and wonder.

Deep in the rain forests of Guatemala, an ancient Mayan temple holds a mythical secret. The legendary Fountain of Youth lies within, but not all myths are fairy tales. The temple ruins have been seized by the Core, a sinister cult determined to unlock the mysteries of immortality. When their captured friends are spotted near the temple, Bobby and his cousin Jinx must journey into the dark heart of the jungle to save them. Harnessing their extraordinary abilities, the boys will undertake an epic quest to fulfill a centuries-old prophecy. Cut off from their allies, Bobby and Jinx combat supernatural barriers, raging rivers, and deadly beasts. They’ll face savage natives, vengeful ghosts, and ruthless mercenaries who can conjure a person’s darkest fears. Past and present will collide, with the power of eternity on the line. Can Bobby fulfill the prophecy and lay the temple’s spirits to rest? If not, Bobby and his friends may become permanent inhabitants of the Temple of Eternity. Book Review 1: "Temple of Eternity is the second book in the Bobby Ether series, and provides teen fantasy readers with another fine adventure. Think Indiana Jones, but on a level geared to young adult adventure story readers. Add a dash of cultural intrigue, with warrior descents of the Mayans determined to take action as souls are claimed by evil forces. Mix in a riddle that evokes the Fountain of Youth, yet seems to negate the legend behind it. What you end up with is a fast-paced adventure designed to keep young readers engaged and guessing throughout... Highly recommended." -- Diane Donovan, Midwest Book Review/Bookwatch

As they each deal with the tragic loss of loved ones, they’re caught by another devastating blow – they are the first in a group of teens genetically manipulated before birth to bond with the elements, and worse... they’re being hunted. Now, Foster and Tate must fight to control their abilities as they learn of their past, how they came to be, who’s following them, and what tomorrow will bring... more DYSASTERS?

Habeas Viscus written by Alexander Ghedi Weheliye and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-08-20 with Social Science categories.

Habeas Viscus focuses attention on the centrality of race to notions of the human. Alexander G. Weheliye develops a theory of "racializing assemblages," taking race as a set of sociopolitical processes that discipline humanity into full humans, not-quite-humans, and nonhumans. This disciplining, while not biological per se, frequently depends on anchoring political hierarchies in human flesh. The work of the black feminist scholars Hortense Spillers and Sylvia Wynter is vital to Weheliye's argument. Particularly significant are their contributions to the intellectual project of black studies vis-à-vis racialization and the category of the human in western modernity. Wynter and Spillers configure black studies as an endeavor to disrupt the governing conception of humanity as synonymous with white, western man. Weheliye posits black feminist theories of modern humanity as useful correctives to the "bare life and biopolitics discourse" exemplified by the works of Giorgio Agamben and Michel Foucault, which, Weheliye contends, vastly underestimate the conceptual and political significance of race in constructions of the human. Habeas Viscus reveals the pressing need to make the insights of black studies and black feminism foundational to the study of modern humanity.
