Declines in real wages, increases in the number of poor families, and cutbacks to welfare and other safety-net programs have stimulated the popularity of microenterprise development programs (MDPs). These programs typically offer training and loans to individuals seeking to operate very small businesses. MDPs are often presented as a path to the self-sufficiency that comes with entrepreneurship and as an example of the success of market-based alternatives to government programs. In Bootstrap Dreams, Nancy C. Jurik analyzes the origins and maturation of these programs in the United States. Based on a national sample of fifty programs and an eight-year case study of one in particular, this is a rare book about microenterprise development. Jurik understands the positive social mission of MDPs, but she is not blind to the problems that they encounter. Jurik's clear perception of potential difficulties and her keen ability to place the microenterprise movement in the larger context of welfare reform and globalization make Bootstrap Dreams a valuable book.

Why is that startup like Dropbox, Airbnb and Netflix are massively successful while 90% of others fail? Is it possible for a startup to replicate similar success? What is the secret sauce? Is it possible for a non-technical person to start a tech company? Yes if you are properly guided.Starting up a tech company can change your life forever. From rat race to a life full of significance and fulfillment. Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk.... imagine your name next to that. But to reach that level you have to win the game racing against time and money. You can do that if you follow the strategies laid out in the book Bootstrap Dream - How to start a tech company from scratch. This book is an essential guide for all startup founders. An IBM Business Value study conducted in 2017 found a shocking report about Indian startups. It is a fact that 90% of startups fail within the first five years. Upon studying 100 plus successful and failed startups I found there are three biggest challenges every startup faces1) Money2) Mentor3) TimeLack of proper mentorship is the number one reason for failure. Every successful professional is well guided. Doctors spent 5 -7 years in college to become a doctor. Same with other successful professionals. Without the trillion-dollar coach Bill Campbell many of the poster boys of Silicon Valley might have never heard beyond the streets of Palo Alto. But startups overlook the importance of proper guidance. Or good guidance is scarce. With the hardcore experience as a successful IT professional with 17 years that spans from working for the following Fortune 100 clients - Walmart, Medco Healthcare, Time Warner, Comcast, American Express, Travellers, Express Scripts, Intuit to Startups. to Startups, I am bridging this gap with a book on startup Bootstrap Dream - How to start a tech company from scratch? This book is the synthesis of my experience and learning. If you read and follow the strategies mentioned in the book, you will have a better chance to succeed

Attempts to understand the human condition through dreaming reach back to antiquity, especially in such classical Indian philosophical texts as the Rg Veda and the Upanisads. In a more contemporary vein, Dream Life, Wake Life continues this investigation, as it views the dream as an open window on the waking human condition. The book discusses the major twentieth-century contributions to dream theory, beginning with Freud's 1900 psychoanalytical theory of dreaming and continuing through Jung's transpersonal and Boss's existential approaches. Recent phenomenological, cognitive, and biological developments are also considered. Dream Life, Wake Life addresses human creativity as illuminated by dreaming. While Freud held a "transformative" view of dreaming in which dream life is secondhand, formed by combining memory traces of diverse past waking experiences into novel compositions, Gordon G. Globus sees the process as creative, the fundamental creative action inherent in the human condition.

Telling To Live written by Latina Feminist Group, and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-09-18 with Social Science categories.

Telling to Live embodies the vision that compelled Latina feminists to engage their differences and find common ground. Its contributors reflect varied class, religious, ethnic, racial, linguistic, sexual, and national backgrounds. Yet in one way or another they are all professional producers of testimonios—or life stories—whether as poets, oral historians, literary scholars, ethnographers, or psychologists. Through coalitional politics, these women have forged feminist political stances about generating knowledge through experience. Reclaiming testimonio as a tool for understanding the complexities of Latina identity, they compare how each made the journey to become credentialed creative thinkers and writers. Telling to Live unleashes the clarifying power of sharing these stories. The complex and rich tapestry of narratives that comprises this book introduces us to an intergenerational group of Latina women who negotiate their place in U.S. society at the cusp of the twenty-first century. These are the stories of women who struggled to reach the echelons of higher education, often against great odds, and constructed relationships of sustenance and creativity along the way. The stories, poetry, memoirs, and reflections of this diverse group of Puerto Rican, Chicana, Native American, Mexican, Cuban, Dominican, Sephardic, mixed-heritage, and Central American women provide new perspectives on feminist theorizing, perspectives located in the borderlands of Latino cultures. This often heart wrenching, sometimes playful, yet always insightful collection will interest those who wish to understand the challenges U.S. society poses for women of complex cultural heritages who strive to carve out their own spaces in the ivory tower. In The Dream Seekers, Lee Irwin demonstrates the central importance of visionary dreams as sources of empowerment and innovation in Plains Indian religion. Irwin draws on 350 visionary dreams from published and unpublished sources that span 150 years to describe the shared features of cosmology for twenty-three groups of Plains Indians. This comprehensive work is not a recital but an understandable exploration of the religious world of Plains Indians. The different means of acquiring visions that are described include the spontaneous vision experience common among Plains Indian women and means such as stress, illness, social conflict, and mourning used by both men and women to obtain visions. Irwin describes the various stages of the structured male vision quest as well as the central issues of unsuccessful or abandoned quests, threshold experiences during a vision, and the means by which religious empowerment is attained and transferred.
