War Bosnien-Herzegowina, das 1878 nach dem Berliner Kongress von Österreich-Ungarn besetzt und 1908 annektiert wurde, so etwas wie eine k.u.k. (Ersatz-)Kolonie? Der vorliegende interdisziplinäre Sammelband versucht diese Frage nach einem post/kolonialem Zugang zur Geschichte, Gesellschaft, Kultur und Literatur der späten Habsburger Monarchie positiv zu beantworten. Die hier versammelten Aufrisse und Fallstudien wenden sich dem Begriff des Kolonialismus bzw. des Imperiums zu, einer emergenten bosnischen Literatur ebenso wie der imperial-österreichischen, der diplomatischen Vorgeschichte der Okkupation wie einer Diskursanalyse ihrer militärischen Narrative, der Konfessions- und Hygienepolitik, der Siedlerbewegung und der Entstehung einer bosnisch-herzegowinischen Volkskunde sowie imagologischen Fragen der mit der Kolonie verbundenen Selbst- und Fremdbilder. In einem weiteren Schritt werden auch die Nachwirkungen die longue durée des k.u.k. Kolonialismus bis in die Katastrophengeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts exemplarisch aufgezeigt etwa anhand von Gedächtnisformationen bosnischer Waffen-SS-Leute, der jugoslawischen Nachfolgekriege in den 1990er Jahren oder des Status von Bosnien-Herzegowina als EU-Protektorat heute.

This multidisciplinary collection of essays provides a critical and comprehensive understanding of how knowledge has been made, moved and used, by whom and for what purpose. To explain how new knowledge emerges, this volume offers a two-fold conceptual move: challenging both the premise of insurmountable differences between confined, autarkic cultures and the linear, nation-centered approach to the spread of immutable stocks of knowledge.
