Vielleicht sind es aber gerade die realen Gewaltdarstellungen, die gefährlich für den Rezipienten sind. In der folgenden Arbeit soll es darum gehen, die Wirkung realer Gewaltdarstellungen auf die Rezipienten zu untersuchen, eine Antwort zu finden auf die Frage: Fungieren Sendungen wie die Tagesschau nicht nur als Darsteller sondern auch als „Brandstifter“ realer Gewalt? Zu Beginn sollen die Definitionen der zentralen Begriffe ein grundlegendes Verständnis für die späteren Betrachtungen ermöglichen. Das Ausmaß der Diskussion um die Wirkung von Gewaltdarstellungen wird im historischen Rückblick aufgezeigt. Die Versuche der Wissenschaft Erklärungen für die Wirkung von Gewaltdarstellungen zu liefern, wird anhand von zwölf Thesen verdeutlicht. Der zentrale Aspekt dieser Arbeit richtet sich auf die Untersuchung der Gefährlichkeit realer Gewaltdarstellungen. Im Resümee wird zu den zentralen Thesen persönlich Stellung genommen und ein Ausblick auf die Entwicklung der untersuchten Thematik entwickelt. Grundlegende Quellen für die Arbeit sind unter anderem Aufsätze und Zeitschriftenartikel, diverse Veröffentlichungen von Michael Kunczik (z.B. das Buch „Gewalt und Medien“) und die Bücher „Gewalt durch Gewalt im Fernsehen“ von Klaus Merten, „Gewaltpotentiale des Fernsehangebots“ von Werner Früh und „Kommunikationswissenschaft“ von Roland Burkart.
