Brenda Berenice o el diario de una loca (1985) es una novela marginal dentro de la marginalidad de la que ya forma parte la literatura de temática. En este artículo se hace un análisis de la novela del autor Luis Montaño (Cananea, Sonora, 1955-ciudad de México, 1985) desde una perspectiva sociológica y psicoanalítica. Los temas que se desarrollan son el papel del pueblo y la ciudad en la trama, un análisis de los sueños del personaje protagónico y las representaciones de ciertos aspectos de la cultura gay dentro de esta novela estructurada en forma de diario en el que su protagonista, un travesti sonorense radicado en la ciudad de México, narra sus aventuras y desventuras del pasado y el presente. ABSTRACT: Brenda Berenice o el diario de una loca (1985) is a marginal novel inside the marginality of which it already is part the gay thematic literature. In this article there is an analysis of the novel written by Luis Montaño (Cananea, Sonora, 1955 - Mexico City, 1985) from a sociological and psychoanalytic perspective. The topics developed are the role of the village and the city in the plot, an analysis of the dreams of the leading personage and the representations of certain aspects of gay culture inside this novel structured as a diary in which its protagonist, a sonoran drag that lives in Mexico City, narrates his adventures and misfortunes of the past and the present. The Gospel of Lucas Gavilan is a contemporary "paraphrase" of the familiar biblical narrative of the life of Christ as told by St. Luke. The author was moved by various Latin American spokesmen of the theology of liberation to attempt a novelistic dramatization of their basic tenets. Thus, the locale for the work is the slums surrounding Mexico City, and several rural communities and other urban areas scattered throughout central Mexico. The central figure of the novel reenacts in a Third World context the episodes in Luke's biography of Jesus, beginning with an ignominious birth in a tenement laundry room and ending with a violent death in a police vanóthe aftermath of brutal treatment by representatives of the political Establishment. Taken as a whole, these varied, intriguing "parodies" of the Gospel manage to encompass virtually every exploitative situation imaginable within the Latin American societies of our day. Throughout the literary imaginaries of the twentieth century there is a reiteration of an authoritarian patriarchal pattern that permeates the social arena as well as the female subject, revealing the contradictions of the Chilean modernity/modernization process. The nation appears invariably determined by semi-feudal and semi-modern structures as well as split female modern subjects. Noticing this has led the author to write this book and investigate specifically the ways the discourse of modernity conflicts with the marriage contract in the construction of feminine subjectivity. Marriage is one of the modern protocols that resolve sexual difference through a pact that proclaims male protection in exchange for female obedience. Subordination of difference becomes the overarching feature guiding an incomplete modernity and its attainment in a hierarchical society.
