Este estudio tiene como propósito valorar la trayectoria de la Obra de la Revolución que se inicia con la fecunda epopeya del Moncada, la insurrección armada, la victoria del 1º de Enero de 1959; y continua con el análisis de la experiencia de la construcción socialista en Cuba hasta el 2016, con sus aciertos y desacierto, su aporte indiscutibles a la difusión de las ideas para la emancipación de los pueblos excluidos de la modernidad; muestra que el socialismo sólo es viable en la variante “economía social de mercado” vinculado a la integración regional; es por tanto, la única teoría capaz de garantizar la libertad económica de la nación, librar del hambre y la miseria a toda la sociedades situadas en la periferia del capitalismo desarrollado, y viabilizar que las presentes y futuras generaciones se eduquen en el conocimiento de los factores que fueron determinantes en la formación y consolidación de la identidad y economía nacional. El mayor logro de la Revolución ha sido el extraordinario grado de consenso y unidad popular que se forjó en apoyo a las medidas y aceptación al programa económico, político y social del Gobierno que tuvo como fundamento una transformación radical de la estructura productiva y del sistema político, con justicia social y equidad distributiva. Un momento histórico del socialismo cubano, se inicia con la autodestrucción de la otrora URSS, y la declaración del periodo especial (1990) para salvar las conquistas de la Revolución, acompañada con una estrategia destinada a rectificar los errores cometidos, salir de la crisis y continuar el desarrollo previsto. Y pese al bloqueo económico-financiero, el país exhibe importantes logros en la economía, la educación, la salud, la cultura y otras actividades, donde el hombre ocupa el centro de los objetivos de la proyectada sociedad. En esta obra se analizan las principales incidencias de la economía cubana, mediante el examen exhaustivo de la influencia ejercida por los Lineamientos Económicos y Sociales aprobados en cada uno de los Congresos del PCC, valorando críticamente los éxitos y errores cometidos hasta el 2016. Además, se proyectan los principios básicos y formación de la nueva estructura económica que deberá asumir el nuevo modelo de gestión y desarrollo de la economía cubana en el siglo XXI. En fin, se afirma que el ejemplo de Cuba coadyuvó a que también “Nuestra América” fuera más libre.

Eric Hobsbawm (1917-2012) wrote that Latin America was the only region of the world outside Europe which he felt he knew well and where he felt entirely at home. He claimed this was because it was the only part of the Third World whose two principal languages, Spanish and Portuguese, were within his reach. But he was also, of course, attracted by the potential for social revolution in Latin America. After the triumph of Fidel Castro in Cuba in January 1959, and even more after the defeat of the American attempt to overthrow him at the Bay of Pigs in April 1961, 'there was not an intellectual in Europe or the USA', he wrote, 'who was not under the spell of Latin America, a continent apparently bubbling with the lava of social revolutions'. 'The Third World brought the hope of revolution back to the First in the 1960s'. The two great international inspirations were Cuba and Vietnam, 'triumphs not only of revolution, but of Davids against Goliaths, of the weak against the all-powerful'.
