EL 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1910, Porfirio Díaz celebró el Centenario de la Independencia sin darse cuenta del descontento que se agitaba a su alrededor. La insatisfacción en el campo por los despojos de tierras, la lucha obrera por mejores condiciones laborales, las aspiraciones de hacer de México un país democrático... todas estas movilizaciones, que despertaron la Revolución de 1910 y precipitaron en junio de 1911 el exilio en París del presidente Díaz, cerraron una importante página de nuestra historia, la del Porfiriato. Sabemos que la Revolución de 1910 alteró el orden social, político y económico del país, conocemos sus causas y a sus principales protagonistas; sin embargo, es inevitable preguntarse si este conflicto, tan significativo para la formación del Estado benefactor mexicano, podría haberse evitado. Entre otras respuestas, Pedro Salmerón y Felipe Ávila son determinantes al afirmar que no es posible hablar de una sola Revolución mexicana, sino de una maderista, otra zapatista, una más villista y la triunfante constitucionalista, cada una la continuación de múltiples luchas, movilizaciones y resistencias acumuladas a lo largo del siglo XIX y los primeros años del XX.
