So when he first tells his family that he’s taking up meditation at the Buddhist Centre in town, no one takes him seriously. But as Jimmy becomes more involved in his search for the spiritual his beliefs start to come into conflict with the needs of his wife, Liz, and cracks begin to form in their previously happy family. With grace, humour and humility Anne Donovan’s beloved debut tells the story of one man’s search for a higher power. But in his search for meaning, Jimmy might be about to lose the thing that matters most.

The Buddha And Religious Diversity written by J. Abraham Velez de Cea and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-03 with Philosophy categories.

Providing a rigorous analysis of Buddhist ways of understanding religious diversity, this book develops a new foundation for cross-cultural understanding of religious diversity in our time. Examining the complexity and uniqueness of Buddha’s approach to religious pluralism using four main categories – namely exclusivism, inclusivism, pluralistic-inclusivism and pluralism – the book proposes a cross-cultural and interreligious interpretation of each category, thus avoiding the accusation of intellectual colonialism. The key argument is that, unlike the Buddha, most Buddhist traditions today, including Theravāda Buddhism and even the Dalai Lama, consider liberation and the highest stages of spiritual development exclusive to Buddhism. The book suggests that the Buddha rejects many doctrines and practices found in other traditions, and that, for him, there are nonnegotiable ethical and doctrinal standards that correspond to the Dharma. This argument is controversial and likely to ignite a debate among Buddhists from different traditions, especially between conservative and progressive Buddhists. The book fruitfully contributes to the literature on inter-religious dialogue, and is of use to students and scholars of Asian Studies, World Religion and Eastern Philosophy.

Sutra Of The Medicine Buddha written by and has been published by Buddha's Light Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Religion categories.

This book is a comprehensive look at the Sutra of the Medicine Buddha and the practice associated with the Medicine Buddha. The sutra narrates how the Buddha, in response to Manjusri Bodhisattva's request, spoke to highly cultivated monastics, bodhisattvas, kings, and magistrates on the meritorious virtues of the Medicine Buddha's Eastern Pure Land of Crystal Radiance. It also elaborates on the twelve great vows the Medicine Buddha made when he was a bodhisattva. This translation is accompanied by the Chinese version, as well as by the pinyin pronunciation of the Chinese characters. In presenting the Medicine Buddha practice, this book includes an introduction to the Medicine Buddha, the Medicine Buddha Dharma function, and a commentary on the Medicine Buddha's vows. Prayers to the Medicine Buddha are also included. Furthermore, there is a chapter on "Buddhism, Medicine, and Health" that shows how this practice can be used for curing physical and mental diseases that afflict us and cause us great suffering. In the Mahayana tradition of East Asia, the Medicine Buddha occupies a very special place in the hearts of the devout. In this respect, this book covers a tradition of crucial importance in Buddhism.
