A riveting exploration of how the Fatimid dynasty carefully orchestrated an architectural program that proclaimed their legitimacy This groundbreaking study investigates the early architecture of the Fatimids, an Ismaili Shi‘i Muslim dynasty that dominated the Mediterranean world from the 10th to the 12th century. This period, considered a golden age of multicultural and interfaith tolerance, witnessed the construction of iconic structures, including Cairo’s al-Azhar and al-Hakim mosques and crucial renovations to Jerusalem’s Dome of the Rock and Aqsa Mosque. However, it also featured large-scale destruction of churches under the notorious reign of al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, most notably the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. Jennifer A. Pruitt offers a new interpretation of these and other key moments in the history of Islamic architecture, using newly available medieval primary sources by Ismaili writers and rarely considered Arabic Christian sources. Building the Caliphate contextualizes early Fatimid architecture within the wider Mediterranean and Islamic world and demonstrates how rulers manipulated architectural form and urban topographies to express political legitimacy on a global stage.

The Gaon of Vilna was the foremost intellectual leader of non-Hasidic Jewry in eighteenth-century Europe; his legacy is claimed by religious Jews, both Zionist and not. In the mid-twentieth century, Shlomo Zalman Rivlin wrote several books advancing the myth that the Gaon was an early progenitor of Zionism. Following the 1967 War in Israel, messianic sentiments spread in some circles of the national-religious public in Israel, who embraced this myth and made it a central component of the historical narrative they advanced. For those who identified with the religious Zionist enterprise, the myth of the Gaon and his disciples as the first Zionists was seen as proof of the righteousness of their path. In this book, Israeli scholar Immanuel Etkes explores how what he calls the "Rivlinian myth" took hold, and demonstrates that it has no basis in historical reality. Etkes argues that proponents of the Rivlinian myth seek to blur the distinction between Zionism as a modern national movement and traditional messianic phenomenon—a distinction that underlies many of the central conflicts of contemporary Israeli politics. As historian David Biale suggests in his brief foreword to this English translation, "what is at stake here is not only historical truth but also the very identity of Zionism as a nationalist movement."

Many erroneous concepts and practices inhabit this old world; and even the church world. This book exposes a lot of them. And of course, if it is erroneous, then the devil is behind it; for he is a liar and the father of lies and liars. Which makes this book a very timely work. God is the same as He has always been; so is the devil; so is lost mankind; so is religion! The outward appearances may be different in these modern times, but underneath, the devil, lost man, and even religion are basically the same as they have been in every generation. The main truth this book emphasizes is that Satan is a diabolical character, but a shrewd one; requiring that he hide behind people, institutions, ideas and concepts that come across as genuine and on the up and up. Why would Satan have to hide his actions and purposes if they were the right kind of actions and purposes? The reader may be surprised, and perhaps even shocked, at some of the places the devil hides behind. Read and find out.

Within God's law of Ten Commandments is revealed a vision of God. God's law is a reflection of His character. In these circumstances it is the height of folly to lightly dismiss the importance of God's Ten Commandments. To attempt refutation of God's law of Ten Commandments is a denial of God.At this very time God is calling His people out of Babylon. Because they are under the influence of the Holy Spirit, the people of God will recognise His voice and leave the Babylonian state of confusion. This fact is proved to be true by the words of John 10:27 where it says:"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."To follow Jesus is to keep God's Ten Commandment, which includes the seventh day Sabbath commandment.

The obvious ties of all three cultures to this scrap of land remain strong and unchangeable. Now a World Heritage Site, the Dome and its surroundings draw worldwide attention. Here is the dramatic story of the bitter, centuries-long - and still unresolved - struggle for control of this sacred land.
