Background. Despite a high prevalence of conditions for which regenerative medicine is potentially applicable, there has been no attempt to systematically understand how regenerative medicine could contribute to improving health in the developing world. Methods. A consensus-building method was used with an international panel of experts to identify and prioritize the most promising applications of regenerative medicine for improving health in developing countries. Thematic analysis was used to identify the criteria that informed the decision-making of the panellists. Conclusions. This study indicates that regenerative medicine could potentially be relevant to developing countries, and is the first to systematically identify and prioritize applications of regenerative medicine that are the most promising for improving health in developing countries. Results. Participants ranked the ten most promising regenerative medicine applications. The top-ranked application was novel methods of insulin replacement and pancreatic islet cell regeneration for diabetes. Six decision-making criteria were identified: burden, impact, feasibility, affordability, acceptability, and indirect benefits.

Regenerative Medicine written by Theodore E Harrison M D and has been published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-13 with Cellular therapy categories.

This book introduces the reader to the new field of regenerative medicine: a multidisciplinary specialty that uses the body's own repair mechanisms to functionally heal previously irreparable tissues or organs. The author first explains the mechanisms of regenerative therapy and the use of modalities like stem cells and platelet-rich plasma. He then goes on to give descriptions of regenerative techniques already in clinical use today, such as the Vampire Facelift, snoreplasty, the O-Shot and and prolotherapy.. He devotes another section of the book to the many therapies that are still in testing, but about to break out into the mainstream. These include cures for COPD, sickle cell disease, congestive heart failure and many more diseases for which today's medical paradigm can offer only temporary or palliative measures. The book ends with a section on the problems and challenges confronting regenerative medicine and the huge potential for new cures. This is an easily accessible book despite the technical topic. At 29,000 words it is not a lengthy treatise. Dr. Harrison explains all concepts clearly and includes a glossary and more than 60 illustrations. It is indexed for quick reference.

This book summarizes the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on “Nanoengineered Systems for Regenerative Medicine” that was organized under the auspices of the NATO Security through Science Program. I would like to thank NATO for supporting this workshop via a grant to the co-directors. The objective of ARW was to explore the various facets of regenerative me- cine and to highlight role of the “the nano-length scale” and “nano-scale systems” in defining and controlling cell and tissue environments. The development of novel tissue regenerative strategies require the integration of new insights emerging from studies of cell-matrix interactions, cellular signalling processes, developmental and systems biology, into biomaterials design, via a systems approach. The chapters in the book, written by the leading experts in their respective disciplines, cover a wide spectrum of topics ranging from stem cell biology, developmental biology, ce- matrix interactions, and matrix biology to surface science, materials processing and drug delivery. We hope the contents of the book will provoke the readership into developing regenerative medicine paradigms that combine these facets into cli- cally translatable solutions. This NATO meeting would not have been successful without the timely help of Dr. Ulrike Shastri, Sanjeet Rangarajan and Ms. Sabine Benner, who assisted in the organization and implementation of various elements of this meeting. Thanks are also due Dr. Fausto Pedrazzini and Ms. Alison Trapp at NATO HQ (Brussels, Belgium). The commitment and persistence of Ms.

Regenerative Medicine Ethics written by Linda F. Hogle and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-19 with Science categories.

This book puts the ethics, policy and politics of stem cells into context in a way that helps readers understand why past and current issues have developed the way they have and what the implications are for their work going forward. It also addresses emerging issues as the field progresses towards clinical and industrial uses. While there is a superabundance of material on the ethics of embryo use and questions of embryonic "personhood," there is little that covers what practicing scientists and managers need to know in order to plan and execute responsible research. Furthermore, researchers funded by the NIH are required to have ethics training as a condition of the grant. As such, this book is an essential resource to all of these pre-professional students whether they plan to move into industry, government or academia.
