WE THE PEOPLE, is the product of a fine team of 18 distinguished authors who live in four different countries of the world; Nigeria, the United States of America, Britain and France. Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, women and men, young and old, Christians and Muslims, from many professional backgrounds and every geo-political zone in Nigeria, participated in writing this book; therefore, the central message and truths documented in this book is not the opinion of one man, but is the collective wisdom and opinion of WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria. Nigeria has suffered enough setbacks and abuse as a nation from bad leaders. Nigerians as a people have suffered enough deprivation, social injustice, government-induced poverty, insecurity, lawlessness and disrespect through bad and corrupt leadership. The government and people of Nigeria have a Constitution, for the purpose of promoting the good governance and welfare of all persons in our country, on the principles of freedom, equality and justice, and for the purpose of consolidating the unity of our people. Every Nigerian president swears an oath to uphold, defend and implement the Constitution of Nigeria, the highest law in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but every Nigerian president has violated directives of the Nigerian Constitution on how to treat WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria. Everybody blames leadership for the deplorable state of Nigeria. There is no question that years of bad leadership has inflicted great injuries on the nation. However, those bad leaders were elected into office by bad Nigerians who voted along tribal and religious lines, or on the basis of who gave them the most money to vote for them. WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria are therefore largely responsible for all the problems in Nigeria. But the problems with WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria goes much more beyond the reckless mistakes they make when they vote bad people into office as their leaders. Most present day WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria are corrupt, lawless, unpatriotic, prejudiced along tribal and religious lines, selfish and self-centered. These vices are a great burden to the nation. This book has been written to educate WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria. Through education and dissemination of the facts we will change the mindset and create a new breed of WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria. The WE THE PEOPLE movement, is the only hope of salvation and transformation for Nigeria. Individual repentance from corruption, lawlessness, reckless behavior, and prejudice along tribal and religious lines is the beginning of salvation and transformation for Nigeria. We need a new breed of WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria. Eventually, we shall attain the critical mass required to clean up Nigeria from bottom to top. Only a clean bottom can create a clean top. The WE THE PEOPLE movement seeks to grow a new breed of WE THE PEOPLE of Nigeria that cuts across tribal, religious, and political inclinations; men and women of all ages and economic status who will commit to doing the right things in their daily lives, free from corrupt tendencies. Eventually, a clean bottom will lead to a clean top, as WE THE PEOPLE use the power of our votes to select clean men and women of integrity for leadership positions nationwide, as we take back our country from corrupt politicians and leaders who abuse WE THE PEOPLE. Additional Details are provided, including how to become a member of the WE THE PEOPLE movement. We have registered a non-governmental organization (NGO), "THE PEOPLE'S GRASSROOTS ASSOCIATION FOR A CORRUPTION-FREE NIGERIA." Our goal is to raise 50 million united Nigerians of every tribe and religion, men and women, young and old, from every ward, every local government, every state, every geo-political zone of Nigeria through a potent nationwide movement that will include proper and careful exercise of our voting rights to elect honest, decent, intellectuals with integrity as leaders and legislatures for a new and transformed Nigeria of our dreams.

Nigeria Is Negotiable written by Chido Onumah and has been published by African Centre for Media & Information Literacy this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-15 with categories.

Nation building is not a project for the faint-hearted or for those with a short memory. It needs statesmen and women, thinkers and active citizens. And it takes very little for granted. In this book, essayist, activist, and organizer, Chido Onumah, explains all this using as his raw material Nigeria's contemporary political economy and history. In law as in politics, countries are defined by a population within bounded territories under a common sovereign. Boundaries, howsoever defined, are, however, not facts of nature; they are artificial. They can be formed, re-formed, un-formed, negotiated and re-negotiated. In this collection, Chido Onumah makes a case for not taking Nigeria or its citizens for granted. It is at once a passionate cry for a better country; a compelling argument for rational debate about the future of the country; and an articulate appeal for committed citizenship. In this book, Chido Onumah shows what is possible when national issues are tackled with rigour and intellectual honesty. Somewhat more than the arguments that it seeks to put forward, therefore, this book is also a record of Nigeria's contemporary history in the last quarter century, from the perspective of a Nigerian whose growing up happened during the period. Fittingly, it is published on the cusp of the Nigerian centenary. This book does not set out to win a popularity contest. Its passion is relentless; its prose is committed and its logic takes few prisoners. Most who read it will find something in it to disagree with and also much in it to agree with. But such is the enterprise of nation building. If this book reminds us of the unfinished tasks of nation building at the exclamation point of Nigeria's Centenary, then the author has served a brilliant purpose. - (Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, Ph.D., Chair of the Governing Council, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Nigeria).

Civil Society And Democracy In Nigeria written by Bernard Nwosu and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-28 with Political Science categories.

This book examines the complex relationship between the state and civil society and the impact that this has had on democratization processes in Nigeria from colonial times to the present. Expanding notions of democracy, the author builds a theoretical understanding of civil society to show how it can be both antithetical to and an ally of the state in the struggle for democratization. Combining the neo-Gramscian framework with discursive perspectives from Habermas and Foucault, the book takes a dialectical approach that traces the incarnations of the state and civil society and relates the mutual connections of the two spaces. This book will be of interest to scholars of African politics, democratization and civil society.
