Sentence Patterns of Indonesian is a comprehensive presentation of the linguistic system of Indonesian, intended for use in first- and second-year courses. Despite an initial appearance of being easy to learn, Indonesian has a complex system of affixes that must be mastered before acceptable sentences can be constructed. A major effort of this book is therefore devoted to providing an understanding of these affixes, especially those used to form verbs and nouns, and their ramifications in sentence construction. The author's approach to understanding is oral-aural; patterns of structure are immediately followed by extensive drills and other exercises after being introduced. Each chapter also includes sections on pronunciation and useful notes on behavior according to Indonesian culture patterns.

Ketika waktu melompat ke tahun 2014-an, aku kembali tertarik pada kuda. Tapi berbeda dengan waktu kecil (yang kudanya sebagai pengangkut), di tahun itu aku tertarik pada kuda karena puisi (terutama ketika membaca beberapa puisi kudanya Umbu Landu Paranggi yang kerap aku bicarakan dengan Mira MM Astra via telepon). Dan di dalam ketertarikan ini, aku juga membaca sekian cerita tentang kuda. Mulai dari kuda yang masuk akal, sampai pada yang magis. Dan mulai yang memang sebagai tunggangan, sampai pada yang dipersonifikasikan. Aku merasa kuda bukanlah sekadar binatang yang kuat, gesit, dan kukuh. Ia juga dapat dijadikan simbol-simbol tertentu. Simbol-simbol yang kerap merujuk pada peristiwa yang tak terduga. Seperti: kematian, perjuangan, kerinduan, dan atau mungkin sesuatu yang bukan apa-apa, tetapi selalu ada—seperti rerumputan di halaman rumah, yang tak diharapkan tumbuh, tapi selalu saja tumbuh. Dan itu membuat apa-apa yang terbuka, pun tertutup. Karena memang takdirnya harus tertutup. Takdir, yang belakangan pun berbisik padaku: “Aku selalu berada di sisimu. Jadi, silakan kau menyapaku atau tidak. Tapi, yakinlah, justru akulah yang nanti selalu pertama kali menyapamu.” Mardi Luhung Pengantar Tiga Kuda di Bulan Tiga adalah buku terbaru karya Mardi Luhung, penyair kelahiran Gresik, 5 Maret 1965. This book documents modern Baba Malay, a critically endangered Austronesian-based contact language with a Sinitic substrate. Formed via intermarriage between Hokkien-speaking male traders and indigenous women in the Malay Peninsula, the language has less than 1,000 speakers in Singapore and less than 1,000 speakers in Malacca, Malaysia. This volume fills a gap for reference grammars of contact languages in general. Reference grammars written on contact languages are rare, and much rarer is a reference grammar written about a critically endangered Austronesian-based contact language. The reference grammar, which aims to be useful to linguists and general readers interested in Baba Malay, describes the language’s sociohistorical background, its circumstances of endangerment, and provides information regarding the phonology, parts of speech, and syntax of Baba Malay as spoken in Singapore. A chapter that differentiates this variety from that spoken in Malacca is also included. The grammar demonstrates that the nature of Baba Malay is highly systematic, and not altogether simple, providing structural information for those who are interested in the typology of contact languages.
