Bei der vorliegenden, stark quellenbezogenen Monographie handelt es sich um die erste geschlossene Darstellung der Geschichte des Bundes der Kommunisten, der, 1836 in Paris als Bund der Gerechten gegrundet, allmahlich zu einer europaisch verzweigten Organisation wurde und sich nach Uberwindung einer von Weitling gepragten Phase unter dem Einfluss von Marx und Engels 1846/47 zum Bund der Kommunisten umformte. Im Unterschied zu anderen Publikationen wird die Tatigkeit des Bundes in der Revolution von 1848/49 nicht nur in vollem Masse einbezogen (-Neue Rheinische Zeitung-), sondern als Hohepunkt der Bundesgeschichte gewertet. Auch die nachrevolutionare Phase - bis zum Kolner Kommunistenprozess 1852 - wird nicht als matter Nachklang gefasst, sondern als ein kurzzeitiger Aufschwung der Bundestatigkeit in Deutschland unter Leitung einer Kolner Zentralbehorde ausfuhrlich analysiert."
