Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar resultados de uma pesquisa sobre a relação universidade ¿ empresa, com base no itinerário percorrido por uma instituição orgânica da burguesia, o Instituto Euvaldo Lodi, fundado em 1969 e mantido pela Confederação Nacional da Indústria. Busca-se mostrar o Instituto como parte de um movimento maior da burguesia: o de influenciar na definição das políticas públicas com o objetivo de transformar a universidade em um espaço próximo aos interesses da indústria. De acordo com a perspectiva gramsciana de intelectual orgânico, a pesquisa analisa as transformações no discurso e nas falas dos dirigentes do Instituto ao longo do tempo, sua relação com as mudanças na diretoria da CNI e com a conjuntura política do País. Por fim, mostra como o Instituto participou, na década de 1990, da disseminação das teses da chamada pedagogia da qualidade total, assumindo um novo discurso e redefinindo suas práticas e ações.

Apesar das inúmeras conquistas, especialmente em relação à situação vivenciada pelas mulheres, percebe-se que a desigualdade de gênero vem se intensificando tanto no espaço doméstico como no espaço do trabalho assalariado. O trabalho assalariado, que poderia contribuir com a emancipação da mulher, trouxe maior sobrecarga quando aliado ao trabalho doméstico. Nesse sentido, a presente dissertação procurou identificar se as mudanças ocorridas na sociedade a partir do século XIX também alteraram a divisão sexual do trabalho doméstico, perceber a cargo de quem está a responsabilidade pelos afazeres domésticos em nossa sociedade e, ainda, apreender como a realidade da esfera reprodutiva é vivenciada por mulheres pertencentes à burguesia e ao proletariado. Para o alcance destes objetivos foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa qualitativa por meio de entrevista semi-estruturada com vinte (20) mulheres - dez (10) pertencentes à burguesia e dez (10) pertencentes ao proletariado. A escolha por pessoas do sexo feminino deu-se pelo simples fato de que são, principalmente, elas que vivenciam, em nossa sociedade, esta desigualdade com maior intensidade do que as pessoas do sexo masculino. O recorte de classe teve como objetivo o de averiguar se as concepções e comportamentos destas mulheres, acerca da esfera reprodutiva, diferenciam-se ou não conforme a classe social que pertencem, indicando se este pertencimento também reforça uma visão desigual da realidade social. A concepção de classe social que nos orientou é da teoria marxista e, desta forma, nosso estudo procura contribuir com o debate sobre a desigualdade de gênero e sobre o trabalho doméstico na sociedade capitalista no sentido de refletir sobre as perspectivas que temos para o futuro.

Neste sentido, esta tese se propõe a analisar as ra zões históricas, elaboradas pela Economia politica, que, em um determinado momento, justificam o impedimento da Escola para aqueles que, no processo da divisão social do: trabalho, não têm outra alternativa que não ganhar sua subsistência com o movimento de seus corpos. Outrossim, procurou-se alcançar os fundamentos que motivaram a expansão da educação primária, como forma de impedir a completa obliteração das crianças e adolescentes, a partir do surgimento da indústria moderna. This history of the Brazilian family in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries studies the relationship between the informal institution of the family and such formal social institutions as medicine, the law, organized politics, and the church. The author focuses primarily on middle- and upper-class families (for whom adequate documentation is available) and shows the change from a patriarchal model of the family to one that was more conjugal and nuclear, a change necessitated by an insecure and urbanizing economy. Nevertheless, Bahian families maintained many traditional values and traditional kin networks. The author examines the daily life and dynamics of households, including what is known about lower-class families, where consensual arrangements were the norm. He looks at the history of the medical profession, the legal profession, and the Catholic church, and he describes the attempts of each group to mobilize the family for its own political, social and cultural ends. The author argues that family ideology - and families themselves - resisted and transformed the efforts of these institutions to impose their will. The book also deals with the changes and continuities in Bahian attitudes and beliefs about courtship, honor, and the place of women, as well as the ways in which Bahians projected a familial ethic onto social relations outside the home. Within families, conduct was governed by a belief in the traditional rituals of 'life in the family circle': weekly family dinners at the table of an older relative, residence in family compounds around an old mansion (or in several apartments of a single building), nepotism in public bureaucracies, and the management of both small and large businesses by families and their relatives. Although these patterns of family life were transformed over time, this study demonstrates that such traditions did survive, even thrive, well into the twentieth century

This book is the first major study of industrialists and social policy in Latin America. Barbara Weinstein examines the vast array of programs sponsored by a new generation of Brazilian industrialists who sought to impose on the nation their vision of a rational, hierarchical, and efficient society. She explores in detail two national agencies founded in the 1940s (SENAI and SESI) that placed vocational training and social welfare programs directly in the hands of industrialist associations. Assessing the industrialists' motives, Weinstein also discusses how both men and women in Brazil's working class received the agencies' activities. Inspired by the concepts of scientific management, rational organization, and applied psychology, Sao Paulo's industrialists initiated wide-ranging programs to raise the standard of living, increase productivity, and at the same time secure lasting social peace. According to Weinstein, workers initially embraced many of their efforts but were nonetheless suspicious of employers' motives and questioned their commitment to progressivism. By the 1950s, industrial leaders' notion of the working class as morally defective and their insistence on stemming civil unrest at all costs increasingly diverged from populist politics and led to the industrialists' active support of the 1964 military coup.
