After a shave and a bath, Tom goes looking for saloons and fallen doves, and Charlie goes looking for a man to repair a hole in his boot.In the boot shop, Charlie tries on a pair of boots along with a unique finely hand-tooled gun belt and holster combined with a new Colt Peacemaker. The bootmaker says Charlie looks like a real gunfighter and asks if Charlie has ever been a lawman? However, the position of sheriff included a special handmade and fine-tooled gun belt and holster from the bootmaker, along with and a new Colt Peacemaker, shotgun, and Winchester. Confident in his skills with men and with a gun, Charlie arranges for his replacement on the cattle drive and accepts the job of Sheriff of Spanish Fort, Texas. Charlie is on the job less than a week when he has to investigate the murder of a young girl. Charlie recruits the assistance of a doctor on his way to Denver, John Henry "Doc" Holliday. Together they deal with big ranch owners, drunk cowboys, robbers, and outlaws even as they examine a tangle of murder clues and follow possible leads to their deadly conclusion.
