The FMCG industry in India has been making significant contribution towards developing the economy not only by providing a large number of consumer goods necessary for carrying on day-to-day activities of the general people but also by generating a considerable amount of employment in India. There have been notable changes in the income as well as the consumption patterns of the people of India in the post-liberalisation era. So, for the purpose of facing diverse challenges in India arising out of the liberalisation measures taken by the Government of India the FMCG companies have also made remarkable changes in their business policies. It results in considerable changes in the pattern of business risk associated with the Indian FMCG companies. However on the basis of the studies of business risk analysis in Indian corporate sector which have so far been made it is inferred that no in-depth study on this issue in connection with the FMCG industry in India considering the effects of liberalization in Indian business environment has been carried out. In this backdrop, the present paper seeks to analyse the business risk associated with 20 selected companies in the Indian FMCG sector during the period 1995-96 to 2011-12. This issue has been tackled using relevant statistical measures.

Financial management practices are likely to have a marked effect on the financial performance of a corporate enterprise. Therefore, sound financial decisions/practices can contribute towards meeting the desired objective of having profitable operations. This subject assumes paramount significance in view of the present dynamic and turbulent business environment, which has produced more intense competition and smaller profit margins across the world. In this context, the financial management practices of the corporates in India, a country with a vast potential for economic growth, can offer valuable insights. The present study explores whether there has been a major change in the financial performance (measured in terms of profitability) and financial policies/decisions of the sample companies over a fixed period (2000-2001 to 2010-2011), with a special focus on pre and post-recession analysis. It delves deeper into current research areas such as zero working capital, real options in capital budgeting, pecking order in capital structures, and clause 49 as reflected in the financial management decisions of sample companies, and provides a broader perspective by identifying trends (if any) in certain aspects of financial decision-making over the past two decades. A comprehensive study, covering all the major aspects of financial management practices, also contains an inter-sectoral study (among the sample companies) and develops an index of professionalism in financial management based on the practices of the sample companies. The book is primarily targeted at teachers/students of finance, management, commerce, accounting and related professional disciplines/fields. Practitioners/professionals will find it an invaluable text that helps guide them to better decision-making.

During the last two decades, deregulation, globalization and liberalization measures adopted by the central government have made a paradigm change in the FMCG sector. In the post-reform period, foreign direct and portfolio investments in Indian FMCG sector have notably influenced the financial performance of the companies belonging to this fourth largest sector in the Indian economy. The present study seeks to measure the changing status of the overall financial performance of 16 selected companies in the Indian FMCG sector. In order to identify the change with respect to financial performance more accurately, the entire study period from 1993-94 to 2012-13, i.e., 20 years, has been subdivided into two phases (Phase I representing the period from 1993-94 to 2002-03 and Phase II representing the period from 2003-04 to 2012-13). Any improvement or deterioration with respect to overall financial performance of each company has been measured by making a comparison between the overall financial performance of Phase I and Phase II, by using relevant statistical techniques and tests.

Insurance companies are in the business of taking risks. Worldwide these companies write policies that deal with specific risks, and in many cases, even underwrite exotic risks. Therefore, obtaining coverage for every insurable risk is being replaced by the risk management concept. Risk management, which includes insurance coverage, is intended to minimise the costs associated with assuming certain types of risk and providing prudent protection. Managing risks is an important factor which insurance companies must attend to, if they are to achieve financial performance. From this perspective, the financial risk management has gained due importance for financial institutions and risk management has become one of the most important practices to be used especially in insurance companies in order to get higher returns. Therefore, this study is endeavoured to ascertain the relationship between financial risk and financial performance of insurance companies in India. The results of the multiple linear regression model reveals that capital management risk, solvency risk, liquidity risk, volume of capital and size of company are most important determinants of financial performance of life insurance companies in India, whereas ROA (proxy measure for financial performance) has statistically insignificant relationship with underwriting risk. The study led to the conclusion that 54.7 percent changes in financial performance of life insurance companies in India could be accounted for by changes in capital management risk, solvency risk, liquidity risk, underwriting risk, size of the company and volume of capital. The study established the fact that risks like capital management risk, solvency risk and underwriting risk are the deterrent factors for the financial performance of life insurance companies in India. The study also led to the conclusion that size of a company, volume of capital and more surprisingly liquidity risk are the pull factors for the financial performance of life insurance companies. On the basis of these findings, the study recommends that there is greater need for life insurance companies in India to manage the risks particularly capital management risk and solvency risk more effectively. The study also recommends that there is a dire need for insurance companies in India to increase their size by enhancing their assets base since it was found that size is an important factor influencing their competitive power and financial performance.

Since last two decades, there is continuing research on company financing activities, particularly aimed at understanding how companies finance their investments and what source they use to finance their activities. Despite decades of intensive research, and hundreds of papers after Modigliani and Millers" seminal work, surprisingly there is a lack of consensus even today among the finance experts on this basic issue of corporate finance. In practice, it is observed that finance managers use different combinations of debt and equity. Academicians and practitioners alike have found it difficult to find out how a firm decides its capital structure in the perfect capital markets of the west as well as in the imperfect capital markets, as in India. In practice, it is observed that finance managers use different combinations of debt and equity to meet the various financial requirements of the company at least cost and risk and for the long term benefit of the company. Therefore, this study is aimed to make analyze of capital structures pattern of selected Indian pharmaceutical companies for the period of 2012 to 2016 and analyze the effect of changes in capital structure on its investment pattern over the period of time. This study also attempts to make an intracompany analysis with the objective to determine the importance of debt-equity mix for the effective investment policy. Similarly, to study the financing decisions, this paper includes the trend analysis of detail financial information of four most reputed pharmaceutical companies, i.e. Dabur India Ltd, Cipla, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, Cadila Health Care Ltd for the period of five years; ie 2012 to 2016.
