Lo spirito di questo velista curioso trova piena realizzazione anche in un importante apparato fotografico di 72 pagine, che traducono in colori e immagini i personaggi incontrati e i luoghi visitati. Questa non è un’impresa, ma semplicemente un gran bel viaggio per mare, che ha regalato momenti ed emozioni indimenticabili all’autore e al suo equipaggio.

This book, based on an empirical form of narration, outlines a short-medium term analysis of the social impact of austerity politics on urban life.. Set in Exarchia, a radical and anti-authoritarian neighbourhood located within the city centre of Athens, Greece, this is an ethnography examining the social struggles and grassroots mobilizations that emerged locally during the crisis. Based on over two years of fieldwork between November 2012 and early 2014, the author brings together participant observation and a period of research-action in one of Exarchia’s stekia. One particular pedestrian street is used as a case study – ‘Odos Tsamadou’ is located near Exarchia Square and here multiple social centres and political activity converge to allow the neighbourhood’s climate of solidarity and reciprocity to fully emerge. For Voir la mer, Sophie Calle invited inhabitants of Istanbul, who often originated from central Turkey, to see the sea for the first time. "I took 15 people of all ages, from kids to one man in his 80s ... once we were safely by the sea, I instructed them to take away their hands and look at it. Then, when they were ready--for some it was five minutes and for others 15--they had to turn to me and let me look at those eyes that had just seen the sea." The project was eventually composed of 14 five-minute videos, made for Calle by Caroline Champetier.
