Final Report written by International Commission on the Holocaust in Romania and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Antisemitism categories.

The International Commission on the Holocaust in Romania was established in October 2003 on the initiative of Ion Iliescu, the President of Romania; this final report was presented to him in November 2004. The aim of the Commission was to research the facts and determine the truth about the Holocaust in Romania during World War II. The report examines various aspects of the state-organized participation of Romania in the mass murder of Jews in Romania and in Romanian-controlled territories, as well as in northern Transylvania where the genocide was perpetrated by the Nazis and their Hungarian allies. Inter alia, it discusses antisemitism and the evolution of Romanian anti-Jewish policies from the late 1930s to 1944, the impact of the Soviet annexation of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina on antisemitism in Romania, anti-Jewish incidents in 1940 and the pogroms in Bucharest and Iaşi, mass murders of Jews in the recaptured provinces and deportation to Transnistria in 1941, mass murder of Jews in Odessa and in Transnistrian camps, the "Romanianization" of the economy and the expropriation of Romanian Jews, the reaction of the Jewish community in Romania to anti-Jewish policies, and the personal responsibility of Ion Antonescu for the genocide. Relates, also, to war crimes trials held in Romania, and to the trivialization of the Holocaust and its "selective" and outright denial in postwar Romania.

"An extremely useful and much needed survey. Over eleven chapters, authors from eight countries cover the complex history of migration from the perspective of Central and Eastern Europe between 1945 and 1993. Following in the footsteps of Klaus Bade’s Encyclopedia of European Migrations, the authors make extensive use of sources in national languages, while providing an extensive overview of population movements in the region between the Baltic, Black, and Adriatic Seas. The individual chapters shed light on phenomena overlooked in other volumes, including individual state reactions to various migratory phenomenon, and the political, economic, and ideological consequences of human movement. The chapters of this volume are uniform not only in their informative nature, but also in suggesting new pathways for in-depth research." Adam Walaszek, Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland "Eastern Europe is an emblematic space of mobility and its Cold War history cannot be told without considering migration from and into the countries of the region. This volume comes at a timely moment and provides a uniquely comprehensive account, full with useful information for further research. It will be a must-read both for migration studies scholars and for area specialists." Ulf Brunnbauer, Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies, Regensburg, Germany "The Handbook is a gift to students of migration on three counts. It gathers the expertise of scholars fluent in the languages – and familiar with the archives – of Eastern and Central Europe. Thus it brings the multi-layered and complex histories of movement beyond the flat descriptor of "Soviet bloc" or Eastern European migrations. The Handbook is both rich and lucid, presenting in-depth materials on the European twentieth-century, on one hand, and organizing each chapter in a similar way, offering the reader transparently comparable histories. From Estonia south to Albania, and from the USSR west to the GDR, each chapter elucidates a complex migration history distinguished by national politics, ethnic composition, and economics – moving from the cataclysmic impacts of World War II to the international migrations and politics of Cold War movement, as well as the politics of Cold War emigrants themselves. Each chapter ends with an epilogue on post-1989 international migrations and a valuable addendum on published and archival sources. Finally, the Handbook models the kind of high quality work produced by international scholarly cooperation at its best." The Music Of The Other written by Laurent Aubert and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-03 with Music categories.

We are surrounded by new musical encounters today as never before, and the experience of musics from elsewhere is progressively affecting all arenas of the human conscience. Yet why is it that Western listeners expect a certain cultural and ethnic 'authenticity' or 'otherness' from visiting artists in world music, while contemporary musicians in Western music are no longer bound by such restraints? Should we feel uncomfortable when sacred rites from Asia or Africa are remade for Westerners as musical entertainment? As these thorny questions suggest, the great flood of world musics and of their agents into our most immediate cultural environment is not a simple matter of expanding global musical exchange. Instead, complex processes are at work involving the growth of intercontinental tourism, the development of new technologies of communication and our perceptions both of ourselves and of the new musical others now around us. Elegantly tracing the dimensions of these new musical encounters, Laurent Aubert considers the impact of world musics on our values, our habits and our cultural practices. His discussions of key questions about our contemporary music culture widen conventional ethnomusicological perspectives to consider not only the nature of Western society as a 'global village' but also the impact of current Western demands on the future of world musics and their practitioners.

This second edition considers advertising in the context of current changes in communication. All chapters have been fully revised and updated, and substantial new material has been added. The social functions and aesthetic effects of advertisements are comprehensively analysed across a wide range of media, from billboards to email and the Internet. Controversially, advertisements are contrasted and compared with literary texts throughout. The book clearly explains relevant concepts from semiotics, poetics, and linguistics, and can serve as an introduction to all of these disciplines. Practical exercises to stimulate further discussion are included at the end of each chapter.
