E' un diario di una ricerca condotta dall'autore anni fa sull'Impero Càzaro. Questo stato, concepito nelle oasi del Centro-Asia e poi arrivato nella steppa ucraina intorno al VII-VIII sec. d.C., ha dominato l'area del sud della Pianura Russa per quasi tre secoli con la sua ibrida cultura giacché i Càzari erano d'etnia turca, ma di religione ebraica. Poco hanno trovato di questa realtà politica gli archeologhi e ciò a causa del terreno dove qualche monumento di mattoni fu eretto che, oggi come oggi, gran parte è sotto l'acqua e del Volga e del Mar Capsio. L'Autore ha cercato di ricostruire una storia e dei propri sforzi di ricerca e dei Càzari come persone vissute tanti secoli fa specialmente tenendo conto che la massa governata restò costantemente multietnica, in maggioranza turcofona e con un'élite profondamente rispettata che professava l'ebraismo.
