Dramatists in Revolt, through studies of the major playwrights, explores significant movements in Latin American theater. Playwrights discussed are those who have made outstanding contributions to Latin American theater during the post–World War II period and who have been particularly sensitive to world currents in literature and drama, while being acutely responsive to the problems of their own areas. They express concern about communication, isolation, and solitude. On a more basic level, they concern themselves with the political and socioeconomic problems that figure importantly in the Third World. The fifteen essays deal with the playwrights Antón Arrufat and José Triana (Cuba); Emilio Carballido and Luisa Josefina Hernández (Mexico); Agustín Cuzzani, Osvaldo Dragún, Griselda Gambaro, and Carlos Gorostiza (Argentina); Jorge Díaz, Egon Wolff, and Luis Alberto Heiremans (Chile); René Marqués (Puerto Rico); and Jorge Andrade, Alfredo Dias Gomes, and Plínio Marcos (Brazil). These are dramatists in revolt, sometimes in a thematic sense, not only in protesting the indignities that various systems impose on modern man, but also in a dramatic configuration. They dare to experiment with techniques in the constant search for viable theatrical forms. Each essay is written by a specialist familiar with the works of the playwright under consideration. In addition to the essays, the book includes a listing of source materials on Latin American theater.

This book connects the work of US private foundations, the US government, and Brazilian intellectuals to explore how they worked collaboratively to address racial disparities in Brazil during the Cold War. It reveals not only how anti-racism was promoted during this period, shaping the political and academic agenda, but also the importance of American foundations, especially the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, in the process. Drawing on a vast array of archival and published sources from Brazil, the United States, and around the world, the book investigates the making of transnational connections and networks that sought to respond to the "race problem", seen as an increasingly dangerous threat to the liberal international order. A organização e estrutura do livro procuram por si só dar ao leitor uma visão de conjunto da obra de Nuno Bragança, apontando para as características inconfundíveis da sua escrita, os temas nela tratados, com marcas de intemporalidade, e as visões do mundo que o autor, os seus livros e as suas personagens promovem. O título escolhido procura sintetizar a vida e obra do autor em duas frases famosas que, a nosso ver, orientaram Nuno Bragança, enquanto pessoa e enquanto escritor. De facto, para ele e suas personagens, é direito de cada um, mas sobretudo um dever, «mudar a vida» («changer la vie») a nível individual, como escreveu Rimbaud, mas é igualmente um direito e um dever «transformar o mundo», contribuindo para as mudanças sociais e políticas necessárias para a construção de uma sociedade livre e justa, como prescreveu Marx. Nuno Bragança e os seus protagonistas literários lutaram por duas vias para que estas duas frases se concretizassem, para cada pessoa, para Portugal e para a Humanidade. Uma dessas vias é, sem dúvida, a escrita literária, uma forma de revolucionar o mundo e, para o autor, a sua «forma de estar com os outros». Os caminhos percorridos para que essas duas máximas se tornassem realidade conduzem directamente ao auto-retrato do autor: «Um homem. Com os outros»
