Las mujeres hemos experimentado un cambio vertiginoso desde la segunda mitad del siglo XX, y seguramente nuestras antecesoras no se reconocerían; ahora bien, también la velocidad de cambio de la sociedad se ha acelerado desde estas fechas. El presente libro expone esta relación dialéctica en el proceso de cambio experimentado por las mujeres a partir de los cambios sociales, políticos y económicos acaecidos en los dos últimos siglos. En el origen de este cambio se sitúa la idea de igualdad surgida en la Ilustración y proclamada en la Revolución Francesa. Las mujeres tuvieron que luchar hasta conseguir esta "concesión" que les reconocía derechos civiles, políticos y económicos; y de forma paralela se fue conformando la teoría feminista como crítica a una sociedad que rechazaba la igualdad y la plena incorporación de las mujeres. En este último siglo las mujeres nos hemos incorporado a la vida pública, sin embargo, un análisis pormenorizado de datos y contextos nos manifiesta otra visión de los hechos, en la cual la desigualdad sigue existiendo. La conclusión final del libro se relaciona con esta última cuestión: las mujeres hemos cambiado, ciertamente que sí, pero la desigualdad permanece en múltiples esferas y comportamientos y está basada fundamentalmente en la continuidad de la cultura de género tradicional previa, resistente sin duda alguna a los cambios. Mercedes Alcañiz Moscardó es doctora en Ciencias Políticas y Sociología y Profesora Titular de Sociología en el Departamento de Filosofía y Sociología de la Universitat Jaume I de Castellón. Sus principales temas de investigación se centran en los Cambios Sociales y en los Estudios de Género. Ha realizado distintas investigaciones y publicado artículos en revistas españolas y extranjeras sobre diferentes aspectos relacionados con la realidad social de las mujeres, como la conciliación entre la vida laboral y familiar, la tecnología, la paz y el desarrollo, los cambios generacionales y la desigualdad. Su última publicación vinculada con este tema es el Manual de Cambio Social y Movimientos Sociales (2009). Asimismo, ha impartido conferencias y participado en cursos en universidades de Portugal, México, Chile, Cuba y Costa Rica.
