Educational Experience As Lived Knowledge History Alterity written by William F. Pinar and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-11 with Education categories.

In this volume, Pinar enacts his theory of curriculum, detailing the relations among knowledge, history, and alterity. The introduction is Pinar’s intellectual life history, naming the contributions he has made to understanding educational experience. Study is the center of educational experience, as he demonstrates in the opening chapter. The alterity of educational experience is evident in his conceptions of disciplinarity and internationalization, interrelated projects of historicization, dialogical encounter, and recontextualization. By reactivating the past, not by instrumentalizing the present, we can find the future, explicated in his studies of the Eight-Year Study, the Tyler Rationale, and the gendering and racialization of U.S. school reform. The interrelation of race and gender is emphasized in the chapters on Ida B. Wells and Jane Addams. The technologization of education is critiqued through analysis of the achievements of George Grant and Pier Paolo Pasolini. The educational project of subjective and social reconstruction is explored through study of Musil’s essayism, a genre that corrects the problems accompanying ethnography and created by identity politics.

Recent events in the western hemisphere have led to a dramatic shift in the strategic and political importance of Latin America. But with relations still cool between the United States and Cuba, and Venezuela becoming more distant every day, there is considerable potential for Canada – with its longstanding commitment to constructive engagement – to forge mutually beneficial relations with these nations as well as rising industrial and economic players such as Mexico and Brazil. In Canada Looks South, experts on foreign policy in Canada and Central America provide a timely exploration of Canada’s growing role in the Americas and the most pressing issues of the region. Starting with the historical scope of the bilateral relationship, the volume goes on to cover such subjects as trade engagement, democratization, and security. As current and future Canadian governments embrace expanding linkages with this region, this collection fills a significant gap in scholarship on Canadian-Latin American relations.

A large scale project was carried out in brazil between 1975 and 1981 to develop vehicle operating cost and pavement deterioration models for the economic evaluation of alternative highway investment strategies. the project was funded by the brazilian government and the united nations development program (undp), with the world bank as the executing agency. data collected and analyzed in the study were incorporated into the highway design and maintenance standards model (hdm-iii), a program which is intended to meet the needs of highway authorities, particularly in developing countries, for evaluating policies, standards and programs of road construction and maintenance. phase 1 of the present rtac study involved four major objectives: 1) to review the results of the brazil study and other subsequent work in the areas of vehicle operating cost, road deterioration and highway investment analysis, 2) to assess canadian government and industry needs in these areas, 3) to determine the applicability of the brazilian research to canadian needs, and 4) to formulate the terms of reference to modify existing models or develop new models that will be suitable for canadian needs and conditions. results of the study indicate that the hdm-iii model has the potential to be a useful network road policy analysis tool, but that a good deal of work will be required to adapt and calibrate the model to accurately reflect canadian conditions. in particular, further research is recommended in two major areas: 1) the relationship between road deterioration and vehicle operating costs, and 2) the development and calibration of a common road roughness scale for canada.
