Dreptatea lui Dumnezeu a fost justificata, iar proslavirea lui Dumnezeu este intemeiata. Amos este primul dintr-o serie de profeti care au anuntat inca din secolul al VIII‑lea i.Cr. faptul ca Dumnezeu va aduce judecata peste statele evreiesti. Dupa cum el insusi recunoaste, Amos nu se tragea dintr-o familie de profeti si nici nu facea parte dintr-o breasla de profeti. Cu toate acestea, Dumnezeu i-a descoperit intentiile Sale si l-a insarcinat sa duca mesajul divin regelui lui Israel si poporului sau, pentru ca iudeii si dinastia davidica sa ia aminte la modul in care lucreaza Dumnezeu si sa renunte la rau. Relatia dintre Dumnezeu si Amos este tipica pentru lucrarea profetului in Israelul antic. De la el ne-au ramas nemuritoarele cuvinte: Leul rage, cine nu se va teme? Stapanul Domn vorbeste, cine nu va profeti? (3:8) Mesajul lui Amos este viu si percutant. Profetul surprinde cu elocventa stilul de viata inclinat spre decadenta al celor instariti si adesea le citeaza cuvintele si gandurile. Imaginile folosite pentru a descrie starea natiunii sunt cu prioritate din sectorul domestic si natural. In repetate randuri insa, Amos creioneaza tablouri specifice razboiului, in care se pot identifica soldati care dezerteaza, cetati asediate, locuinte monumentale incendiate si demolate, populatii decimate si deportate. In majoritatea covarsitoare a mesajelor sale, Amos anunta apropierea nenorocirilor pentru poporul care s-a inselat, crezand ca religiozitatea sa tine locul caracterului. De fapt, profetul constata ca religia evreilor din nord nu mai era monoteista si caracterul lor nu mai urma standardului mozaic. Cu toate acestea, ultimul mesaj din carte anunta vremuri mai bune cand Dumnezeu va reface imparatia davidica de pe baze noi, insa numai cu ramasita supravietuitorilor lor. Silviu Tatu este profesor universitar la Institutul Teologic Penticostal din Bucuresti. A obtinut abilitarea la Scoala doctorala Ecumene din cadrul Universitatii Babes‑Bolyai din Cluj-Napoca in 2018.
