Capacitated Planned Maintenance written by Torben Kuschel and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-08 with Business & Economics categories.

This book examines the problem of maintenance planning and scheduling in industrial production systems. It presents two practically relevant, deterministic mathematical models: the capacitated planned maintenance problem (CPMP) and the weighted uncapacitated planned maintenance problem (WUPMP). It introduces specific optimization algorithms such as construction heuristics, Lagrangean and tabu search metaheuristics. A problem independent hybrid approach links and alternates between two Lagrangean relaxations. It also analyzes the solvability with respect to the computational complexity of several problem classes, polyhedral properties and lower bounds. Computational studies demonstrate the performance of the heuristics, lower bounds, subgradients obtained from heuristics and the quality of dual information. This unique book includes implementation details and an introduction to the necessary theory making it suitable for upper undergraduate students.

Simultaneous Production And Maintenance Planning For A Single Capacitated Resource Facing Both A Dynamic Demand And Intensive Wear And Tear written by Anja Wolter and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with categories.

This paper presents a generic modeling framework to simultaneously decide about production quantities and maintenance operations for a capacitated resource facing a dynamic demand for different types of products. As the resource needs to be setup for each specific type of product, a lot-sizing problem occurs. In addition it is assumed that production causes intensive wear and tear. For this reason frequent maintenance activities need to be coordinated with the production operations in order to efficiently use the capacitated resource. A single generic model is presented to capture alternative forms of maintenance and different modes of interaction between maintenance and setups. As the model is numerically intractable for standard branch & bound algorithms, we solve it heuristically via a decomposition using a Fix-and-Optimize approach. Numerical results show that the proposed solution method produces high-quality results quickly. We further study the impact of simultaneous vs. sequential decisions about production and maintenance in the case of intensive wear and tear.

Towards Concurrent Planning Of Railway Maintenance And Train Services written by Tomas Lidén and has been published by Linköping University Electronic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-05 with categories.

Efficiency in the public and freight transportation systems is of crucial importance for a society. Railways can offer high capacity and relatively low environmental impact, but require that several technical systems are tuned and operate well. Specifically there is a very tight interdependency between infrastructure and trains, which distinguishes railways from other transportation modes. Thus maintenance of all the subsystems is needed. Railways do also have some specific and complicating properties that influence maintenance and operations: Most activities need exclusive access to the infrastructure and - due to the geographic layout, safety requirements and partitioning of the subsystems - large portions of the network will be affected by each activity. Furthermore, several organisational units and resources are involved, ranging from governments and regulatory bodies, over operators and contractors to suppliers, technical experts and work forces. Thus railway maintenance is complicated to organize and consumes large budgets. This thesis treats the planning and scheduling problems that concern railway infrastructure maintenance and the coordination with train traffic. Mathematical methods and optimization are studied and used, with the aim of advancing the knowledge about models for solving such problems. The thesis contains three papers and presents: (1) A survey regarding railway maintenance activities, the major planning problems and the conducted research so far; (2) A model for quantitative comparison and assessment of competing capacity requests from train operations and maintenance; (3) An optimization model for integrated scheduling of both maintenance windows and train services. The work can be helpful for practitioners as well as researchers who want to take further steps in this interesting and challenging area. Based on the results that have been obtained, future research directions are presented that may lead towards practical use of concurrent planning of railway maintenance and train services.

Assembly Line Balancing Under Uncertain Task Time And Demand Volatility written by Yuchen Li and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-10 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book introduces several mathematical models in assembly line balancing based on stochastic programming and develops exact and heuristic methods to solve them. An assembly line system is a manufacturing process in which parts are added in sequence from workstation to workstation until the final assembly is produced. In an assembly line balancing problem, tasks belonging to different product models are allocated to workstations according to their processing times and precedence relationships among tasks. It incorporates two features, uncertain task times, and demand volatility, separately and simultaneously, into the conventional assembly line balancing model. A real-life case study related to the mask production during the COVID-19 pandemic is presented to illustrate the application of the proposed framework and methodology. The book is intended for graduate students who are interested in combinatorial optimizations in manufacturing with uncertain input.
