Hemos reunido en este libro una selección de artículos publicados por el Foro de Altos Estudios Sociales Valparaíso, dirigidos a caracterizar los principales rasgos que hoy experimenta la economía mundial y cómo ella afecta las relaciones entre el sistema económico y el régimen democrático. En esta caracterización se inscribe el análisis del conflicto social manifiesto de forma paradigmática en el caso de Chile a partir de fi-nes de 2019 en lo que se ha convenido llamar como “estallido social”. Esta caracterización ofrece una interpretación de la crisis del sistema que permitiría ayudarnos en la identificación de las posibles respuestas congruentes con la gravedad de la misma. Los artículos seleccionados en este libro han sido ordenados conforme al mayor o menor énfasis concedido al diagnóstico o a las respuestas de políticas que se desprenderían de la misma. Hablamos de énfasis porque suele ocurrir que en el diagnóstico frecuentemente subyace una idea contrafactual que tiene que ver con nuestra idealización sobre lo que estimamos como una sociedad justa y buena.
