The Adventure written by Giorgio Agamben and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-03-09 with Philosophy categories.

Agamben charts a journey that ranges from poems of chivalry to philosophy, from Yvain to Hegel, from Beatrice to Heidegger. An ancient legend identifies Demon, Chance, Love, and Necessity as the four gods who preside over the birth of every human being. We must all pay tribute to these deities and should not try to elude or dupe them. To accept them, Giorgio Agamben suggests, is to live one's life as an adventure—not in the trivial sense of the term, with lightness and disenchantment, but with the understanding that adventure, as a specific way of being, is the most profound experience in our human existence. In this pithy, poetic, and compelling book, Agamben maps a journey from poems of chivalry to philosophy, from Yvain to Hegel, from Beatrice to Heidegger. The four gods of legend are joined at the end by a goddess, the most elusive and mysterious of all: Elpis, Hope. In Greek mythology, Hope remains in Pandora's box, not because it postpones its fulfillment to an invisible beyond but because somehow it has always been already satisfied. Here, Agamben presents Hope as the ultimate gift of the human adventure on Earth.

Heir to one of the world's largest fortunes, member of the U.S. American Republican party's liberal wing, Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller served as Governor to the state of New York for four consecutive terms, as Vice President of the United States under Gerald Ford after Richard Nixon's resignation, all while remaining eternally desirous of the Yankee Republic's foremost position. Yet what remains in this flavorful profile is his biography's least-known facet: as propulsor of capitalism in Brazil. Rockefeller got closer to the country during his time as chair of the U.S. office for Inter-American Affairs, a government organ which strove to distance the Vargas Administration from Nazism and Fascism and to guarantee that Brazil would remain under the aegis of the U.S. American influence. With tenacity, "good intentions," and having been imbued with the ideologies of his nation and class, the politician manifested genuine interest in Brazil, and involved himself in the most varied of activities, from rubber cultivation to São Paulo's urban planning, always attempting to import efficiency and the American Way of Life as an antidote preventing the expansion of communism.THE AMERICAN "AMIGO" is another book by Antonio Pedro Tota, author of O Imperialismo Sedutor (The Seduction of Brazil) and O Amigo Americano.

Phantom Terror written by Adam Zamoyski and has been published by Basic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-10 with History categories.

For the ruling and propertied classes of the late eighteenth century, the years following the French Revolution were characterized by intense anxiety. Monarchs and their courtiers lived in constant fear of rebellion, convinced that their power-and their heads-were at risk. Driven by paranoia, they chose to fight back against every threat and insurgency, whether real or merely perceived, repressing their populaces through surveillance networks and violent, secretive police action. Europe, and the world, had entered a new era. In Phantom Terror, award-winning historian Adam Zamoyski argues that the stringent measures designed to prevent unrest had disastrous and far-reaching consequences, inciting the very rebellions they had hoped to quash. The newly established culture of state control halted economic development in Austria and birthed a rebellious youth culture in Russia that would require even harsher methods to suppress. By the end of the era, the first stirrings of terrorist movements had become evident across the continent, making the previously unfounded fears of European monarchs a reality. Phantom Terror explores this troubled, fascinating period, when politicians and cultural leaders from Edmund Burke to Mary Shelley were forced to choose sides and either support or resist the counterrevolutionary spirit embodied in the newly-omnipotent central states. The turbulent political situation that coalesced during this era would lead directly to the revolutions of 1848 and to the collapse of order in World War I. We still live with the legacy of this era of paranoia, which prefigured not only the modern totalitarian state but also the now preeminent contest between society's haves and have nots. These tempestuous years of suspicion and suppression were the crux upon which the rest of European history would turn. In this magisterial history, Zamoyski chronicles the moment when desperate monarchs took the world down the path of revolution, terror, and world war.
