“In addition to scaring the daylights out of us, The Diviner’s Tale stands up for the offbeat and unconventional in human nature” (The Boston Globe). Cassandra Brooks is a diviner, what used to be called a water-witch. Hired by a developer to dowse some land in upstate New York, she is walking a lonely forested valley one spring morning when she comes upon the shocking vision of a young girl hanged from a tree. When she returns with authorities to the site, the body has vanished, leaving in question Cassandra’s credibility, if not her sanity. The next day, during a return visit with the sheriff to have another look, a dazed, mute missing girl emerges from the woods—alive, and the very picture of Cassandra’s hanged girl. What follows is the narrative of ever-deepening and increasingly bizarre divinations that will lead this gifted young woman, the struggling single mother of twin boys, hurtling toward a past she’d long since thought was behind her. The Diviner’s Tale is at once a journey of self-discovery and an unorthodox murder mystery, a tale of the fantastic and a family chronicle told by an otherwise ordinary woman who is about to be locked in a mortal chess match with a real-life killer who has haunted her since before she can remember. “[A] splendidly written mystery . . . A compelling story. Grade: A.” —The Plain Dealer “An astonishing writer.” —Joyce Carol Oates, New York Times–bestselling author of Double Delight “Beautifully written, tight as a tripwire, The Diviner’s Tale isn’t quite like any ghost story I’ve read before.” —Boing Boing “Morrow quietly drops clues as he guides you deeper into the mystery of the dead girl—and into Cass’s own mind.” —The New York Times

The Cassandra follows a woman who goes to work in a top secret research facility during WWII, only to be tormented by visions of what the mission will mean for humankind. Mildred Groves is an unusual young woman. Gifted and cursed with the ability to see the future, Mildred runs away from home to take a secretary position at the Hanford Research Center in the early 1940s. Hanford, a massive construction camp on the banks of the Columbia River in remote South Central Washington, exists to test and manufacture a mysterious product that will aid the war effort. Only the top generals and scientists know that this product is processed plutonium, for use in the first atomic bombs. Mildred is delighted, at first, to be part of something larger than herself after a lifetime spent as an outsider. But her new life takes a dark turn when she starts to have prophetic dreams about what will become of humankind if the project is successful. As the men she works for come closer to achieving their goals, her visions intensify to a nightmarish pitch, and she eventually risks everything to question those in power, putting her own physical and mental health in jeopardy. Inspired by the classic Greek myth, this 20th century reimagining of Cassandra's story is based on a real WWII compound that the author researched meticulously. A timely novel about patriarchy and militancy, The Cassandra uses both legend and history to look deep into man's capacity for destruction, and the resolve and compassion it takes to challenge the powerful.

How women artists and activists across the globe employ myth to communicate personal and historical experiences of violence is the central concern of this innovative collection. Rather than compartmentalizing women's artistic production within generic or geographical boundaries, the volume encompasses literary criticism, discussion of film and art, artwork, autobiographical accounts and pieces of original creative writing, thereby promulgating an inclusive way to approach literature and the arts.

Teenage Writings written by Jane Austen and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-13 with Young Adult Fiction categories.

'Jane Austen practising' Virginia Woolf Three notebooks of Jane Austen's teenage writings survive. The earliest pieces probably date from 1786 or 1787, around the time that Jane, aged 11 or 12, and her older sister and collaborator Cassandra left school. By this point Austen was already an indiscriminate and precocious reader, devouring pulp fiction and classic literature alike; what she read, she soon began to imitate and parody. Unlike many teenage writings then and now, these are not secret or agonized confessions entrusted to a private journal and for the writer's eyes alone. Rather, they are stories to be shared and admired by a named audience of family and friends. Devices and themes which appear subtly in Austen's later fiction run riot openly and exuberantly across the teenage page. Drunkenness, brawling, sexual misdemeanour, theft, and even murder prevail.

Donavan S Story written by Evette DuLuv and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-13 with Fiction categories.

My story is about an Irish family and some of the joys and woes they have. Also, I fit in some macabre elements, a little wolf stuff, not really bloody, maybe a little silly though. Nowadays, with all the vampire and werewolf stories, they get too bloody and violent. Mine is more on the side of keeping the people more sheeplike, not wolfish, as opposed to the violence and bloodshed in movies and stories today. Donavan, the main character, goes into a dream world one night in a cabin in the Canadian Rockies and sees his late mother and father and others, and a story unwinds in his mind, and tells him who his father really is. The saga goes from Kansas to Canada, Ireland, then Scotch Highlands. Like I said, it might be a little silly, and a little mixed up, but all in all, I think it’s good reading, especially the intimate parts.
